Darkforge Ram

The Dark Iron dwarf paladin's own mount. A Dark Iron dwarf paladin gets it without a quest, trainer or vendor: players report it in the journal as soon as the character is made, at level 10 where allied-race characters start, while the wiki says it is learned automatically at level 20. So once Dark Iron dwarves are unlocked on the account, making a paladin is all it takes, or that and ten levels.
Guides Wowhead: Dark Iron Dwarf Allied Race · Blizzard Support: How Do I Unlock Allied Races?
Before you go
- Dark Iron dwarves unlocked as a playable race: an Alliance character of level 40 or more does the recruitment chain from the Stormwind Embassy, six quests: Blackrock Depths (Aysa Cloudsinger; a scenario in Shadowforge City), The MOTHERLODE!!: Ironfoe, Molten Core, Firelands, Forged in Fire an' Flame and Dark Iron Dwarves · about 1.5 h
- A new Dark Iron dwarf paladin, logged in once; levelled to 20 if the mount is not in the journal straight away · about 0.1 h
In all: about 1.6 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
There is nowhere to travel for this one.
Notes and sources
The journal files it under quests and says only 'Paladin'; there is no item. No place is given because there is nowhere to travel for the mount itself.
Wowhead's tooltip for the spell (270562) says Requires Paladin, Faction: Alliance, and its spell page lists the race as Dark Iron Dwarf beside two internal Dracthyr visage entries; comments of 2019 and 2020 say a human paladin can neither use it nor count it.
The level is the one thing the sources disagree on:
- the wiki's page says it is learned automatically at level 20, and a 2020 comment found it in the mounts tab on reaching 20
- a 2024 comment says the character only has to be made ('realised I had it at level 10 as I was heading out to start questing')
- a 2024 reply made a character, logged in and deleted it, and kept the mount in the collection, where it still counts though only a Dark Iron dwarf paladin can ride it
The later reports are followed, with the wiki's level kept in the requirement; the wiki records the same shift from 20 to 10 for the Zandalari paladin's mount, the Crusader's Direhorn, in patch 9.0.1. A 2020 comment got it on a Class Trial paladin.
The unlock no longer asks for Exalted with the 7th Legion (lifted in patch 9.0.1) or the achievement Ready for War (lifted in patch 10.1.5), by the wiki's patch notes. Blizzard's support article (updated about eight months before it was read in 2026) asks only for a level 40 character and the recruitment quest chain.
The chain's first quest was moved to Aysa Cloudsinger in patch 8.2.5 and follows the embassy quest A Choice of Allies; Moira Thaurissan stood at 52.0, 13.6 in Stormwind (wiki), and the wiki gives no coordinates for Aysa. The second quest, The MOTHERLODE!!: Ironfoe, is done inside the dungeon The MOTHERLODE!! (comments on Wowhead's guide).
Wowhead's Dark Iron Dwarf guide (dated 2025) shows the paladin's ram but still lists Ready for War among the requirements, so it is linked for the quests and the scenario, not for what the unlock asks; only parts of its text could be read.
Not established: whether a Dark Iron dwarf paladin made by race change or level boost gets the mount the same way, though nothing suggests otherwise. Wowhead says 8% of profiles have the mount.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
