From Island Expeditions, in two ways at once. It is a rare reward at the end of an expedition on which twilight dragons were among the island's enemies (they come only as invaders or as the extra rares placed at the start, never as an island's own theme), and it can be inside Crestfall Salvage, a crate that the salvage captain beside the Expedition Map sells for 175 Seafarer's Dubloons in the weeks he has it. The dubloons come from the expeditions themselves.
Chance 6.26% per try, so about 16 tries on average — Per crate. Wowhead: 155 mounts in 2,477 opened Crestfall Salvage (read 2026-10-10). Wowhead also has 4 in 1,661 opened Jorundall Salvage (0.24%). wow.gg says about 5% a crate. The chance of the end-of-expedition reward was never published: wow.gg guesses under 1%, and two players who counted their runs in 2019 needed 4,446 and 10,072 expeditions before it came

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
About 16 crates are expected at Wowhead's figure, some 2,800 dubloons. The hours given in the requirements are for one crate, and the dubloon rate is the weak figure. The time on the spot is buying and opening a crate; an expedition itself is the 5.5 minutes counted above.
The captain carries three island crates a week, and the wiki says an island's crate is on sale only when that island is one of the week's three, so Crestfall Salvage is not there every week. Dubloons keep, and have moved between a warband's characters since patch 11.0 (as read for the Saltwater Seahorse), so they can be saved for a Crestfall week.
Expeditions are queued at the Expedition Map next to the captains: Flynn Fairwind's table in Boralus Harbor, and Captain Rez'okun in the Port of Zandalar (44.6, 95.4). A hotfix of 17 June 2026 put expedition queueing right again in Midnight (wiki).
Every expedition on which twilight dragons turn up carries the direct chance as well: since patch 8.1 their being on the island is enough, win or lose, with a better chance on higher difficulty (wiki; Blizzard's post quoted in Wowhead's guide). Wowhead's guide says twilight dragons 'only have a chance to spawn via invasions'; comments of 2023-2025 report the mount from Mythic Crestfall and Mythic Verdant Wilds, and one of 2025 got it on Crestfall with no twilight dragons seen.
The sources disagree on the crates:
- Wowhead's guide (updated 2021): Jorundall, Rotting Mire, Crestfall and Verdant Wilds Salvage
- the wiki: Crestfall and Jorundall
- Wowhead's loot data: those two only, almost all in Crestfall
wow.gg's guide names the Dubloons Traders (Captain Klarisa, Captain Zen'taga) and Venture Co. 'Salvage' for the crate route; the wiki and Wowhead have the island crates with Captain Nightrunner and Captain Kitt, which is what this guide follows.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
