Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
From Island Expeditions, in two ways at once. It is a rare reward at the end of an expedition on which mogu were among the island's enemies, and it can be inside Dread Chain Salvage or Snowblossom Salvage, crates that the salvage captain beside the Expedition Map sells for 175 Seafarer's Dubloons each in the weeks he has them. The dubloons come from the expeditions themselves.
Chance 7.99% per try, so about 13 tries on average — Per crate, pooled over the two crates: Wowhead (read 2026-10-10) has the mount in 91 of 1,209 opened Dread Chain Salvage (7.53%) and 82 of 957 opened Snowblossom Salvage (8.57%), together 173 in 2,166. The chance of the end-of-expedition reward was never published; wow.gg repeats players' guess of about 1% and one Wowhead comment of 2019 counts 615 expeditions
Time there about 2 min a visit
Before you go
- 175 Seafarer's Dubloons for each crate: some 18 to 44 expeditions · about 3 h
In all: about 3 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Boralus 66.2 32.2 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Boralus*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way Dazar'alor 44.4 94.2 - Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
About 12 or 13 crates are expected at Wowhead's figure, some 2,200 dubloons. The hours given in the requirements are for one crate, and the dubloon rate is the weak figure. The time on the spot is buying and opening a crate; an expedition itself is the 6 minutes counted above.
The captain carries three island crates a week out of eleven, so neither crate is on sale every week (wiki: a crate is offered when its island is one of that week's three). Dubloons keep, so they can be saved for such a week; the Risen Mare's notes have them moving between a warband's characters since patch 11.0, which was not checked again.
Which crates hold it:
- Wowhead's loot data and the wiki: Dread Chain and Snowblossom (Wowhead's count is of crates opened since patch 8.3)
- Wowhead's rewards guide (updated 2021) adds Un'gol Ruins Salvage, for which Wowhead records no opening with the mount
- wow.gg's guide names Un'gol Ruins and Verdant Wilds, and other captains (Zen'taga, Klaars), against every other source, and is not linked for that reason
The item is unique; a comment tells of two from one crate.
Every expedition with mogu on the island carries the direct chance as well. They are the main creatures of Dread Chain in some weeks and can arrive on any island with an invasion, and since patch 8.1 their being there is enough, nothing has to be killed (Wowhead's guide, quoting Blizzard); a higher difficulty raises the chance.
A third source was not looked into: the wiki and Wowhead comments of 2019 have it as a possible reward of the mission that the weekly Azerite quest's Mysterious Treasure Map adds to the Battle for Azeroth mission table.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
