The Red Qiraji Resonating Crystal drops from the trash creatures of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (ten kinds of qiraji, anubisath and obsidian guards), from about one kill in a hundred: it is the rare one of the four crystals. The first to meet are the eight Anubisath Sentinels that stand in two packs before the first boss, The Prophet Skeram. The mount can be summoned only inside the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.
Chance 8% per try, so about 13 tries on average — Worked out, not read as such. Wowhead's item page (read 2026-10-11) records 37,681 crystals in 3,740,865 loots over ten trash creatures (1.01% a kill), and 5,897 in 572,152 for the Anubisath Sentinel alone (1.03%). 8% is the chance over the eight Sentinels before the first boss (1 - (1 - 0.0103)^8 = 7.95%), so about 13 such rounds are expected; thirty trash kills give 26%. The tooltip gives no figure. Wowhead's client data for 1-16 July 2025 showed 0.84% a loot (margin 0.14%)

Getting there
/way Ahn'Qiraj: The Fallen Kingdom 46.6 7.3 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Caverns of Time*
- Fly the rest of the way
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Caverns of Time*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The crystal comes from trash only, so it is not tied to a boss kill: as long as The Prophet Skeram is left alive the character is not saved to the raid, which is why the lockout is given as none. Wowhead comments from 2008 to 2025 describe killing the trash before him, leaving, resetting the instance and going in again; a 2012 reply says only about five instances can be entered in an hour. A 2025 comment warns not to mix up the Temple with the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj next door.
Two packs of four Sentinels give the eight kills counted here, as for the Yellow and Green tanks; the Obsidian Eradicator at the entrance drops it too (0.95%). Wowhead's list has ten creatures, each between 0.85% and 1.36%:
- the Qiraji Mindslayer, Brainwasher, Lasher, Slayer and Champion
- the Obsidian Eradicator and Nullifier
- the Anubisath Sentinel, Defender and Warder
A 2025 comment and its replies got it on the 2nd, 5th and 7th round and tell of 50 and 124 rounds without it. The 2025 figure was taken during Collector's Bounty, whose announced +5% Wowhead's article doubts was ever applied to this crystal; it matches the long-run count. A 2009 comment quotes the old Armory at 1-2% for the Eradicator and the Sentinel.
The Yellow crystal drops from the same creatures about nine times as often (8.99% a kill), and the Blue and Green ones drop there too.
The crystal is unique and binds when picked up, so extra ones can only be destroyed (a 2019 comment). The mount is in the journal and counts for the collection, but it can be ridden only inside the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj and vanishes if the rider is attacked (wiki, tooltip); getting it also gives the Feat of Strength Why? Because It's Red. The item asks for level 17 and Apprentice Riding since patch 9.0.1 (wiki).
The entrance and its coordinates are the same as for the Yellow and Green tanks: worked out from the game's own table of instance entrances (it comes out as Silithus 24.1, 87.1, the same spot on the neighbouring map); no guide that was read gives them. No guide is linked: it only takes killing the trash.
Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
