Frightened Kodo
Find a character at the top of the page to see whether your account has this mount, and where that character stands on what it asks for.
Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Not a kill: the Frightened Kodo is a small friendly kodo that turns up now and then at one of a handful of points in the south of the Battle for Azeroth version of Darkshore, runs about and is gone within a minute or two. Clicking it starts a short channel, Calming; when it finishes the kodo nuzzles the player, the mount item lands in the bags and the kodo disappears. Only the first player to finish the channel gets it. Either faction, whichever side holds the warfront.
Chance No roll: the mount is certain once the Calming channel finishes (Wowhead comments, wiki, both guides). What is uncertain is finding the kodo before it leaves or someone else calms it, and no figure for that was ever published; Wowhead records no loot for it

Before you go
- The kodo being there. Players' method (Wowhead comments, 2022 to 2026): it appears when a copy of the zone starts afresh, which happens after a realm restart or once the zone has stood empty for about 15 minutes, and it leaves after one to two minutes. So: arrive (or log in) in a zone that has just started, check the points at once with a targeting macro, and if it is not there leave the zone or log out for 15-20 minutes and try again; War Mode on or off gives a second copy of the zone to try · about 1 h
In all: about 1 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Darkshore 41.2 65 - Take the portal from Stormwind to Darnassus*
- Fly the rest of the way
- Fly there
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Click the kodo and stand still: moving breaks the channel (comments of 2018 and 2022; a druid can click it in flight form). Only one player gets each kodo: 'only the first person who clicks the Kodo can get the mount' (2018 comment), and both guides say the same. The journal files it under Drop, but nothing is killed or looted.
Wowhead's recorded positions:
- 38.0-38.4, 65.4-65.6
- 38.8, 50.0
- 39.0-39.4, 56.2-57.0
- 41.2, 54.2
- 41.2, 65.0
- 43.8, 67.4-67.8
wow.gg lists six points (41.3, 65.5; 44.0, 67.5; 41.3, 54.0; 38.0, 66.0; 44.0, 65.0; 39.2, 56.5), and the comments' waypoint list adds 45.0, 51.3 and 38.5, 33.0. The place given is the one all three have, 41.2, 65.0, and a round of the rest takes two to three minutes (wow.gg).
Its nameplate does not show and it is about the size of a hunter's pet, so the comments use a macro (/target Frightened Kodo with a sound or a ping) and the NPC Time addon, which shows how long nearby creatures have been alive and so whether the zone has just started. Rare-alert addons only know it when its id, 148790, is added by hand.
Sources disagree on when it appears: the comments go by the zone resets described above, the guides give 2 to 8 hours. A 2024 comment found zones on quiet realms that had not reset in days, and comments of 2023 did not find it after realm restarts. Recent successes by the reset method: one in 2025 and three in 2026.
It is friendly to both sides, and who holds the warfront does not matter (2018 comment; conquestcapped: 'Phasing is based on Warfront availability, not faction ownership').
Several commenters used a Class Trial character on a quiet realm, since the mount is learned for the whole account; one in 2025 could not reach Darkshore that way and another in 2025 could not learn it on the trial, so that is not relied on here. Whether the Warfronts feature has to be opened first was not established.
The item binds when picked up (Wowhead's tooltip). Added in patch 8.1.0; the journal's text makes it the kodo that bolts in the Terror of Darkshore cinematic (wiki).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
