Drops from a rare in the Battle for Azeroth version of Darkshore, a different one for each side and only while that side holds the Darkshore warfront: Alliance characters kill Moxo the Beheader of the Shatterspear Tribe near Ruins of Mathystra in the north-east, Horde characters kill Athil Dewfire in the Twilight Vale, west of the Grove of the Ancients. Both teach the same mount.
Chance 5.23% once a week, so about 19 tries on average — Wowhead, Alliance item (166434) from Moxo the Beheader: 1,569 mounts in 29,976 recorded loots. Wowhead's tooltip for the Horde item (166803, Athil Dewfire) shows 4.98%; its counts were not read. The Rarity addon assumes 1 in 20 (per a Wowhead comment of January 2025)

Before you go
- The character's own faction in control of the Darkshore warfront; under the other side's control its rare is not there. The warfront table (Boralus harbour, Port of Zandalar) and the faction's world quests on the Darkshore map show who holds it · 7 days
In all: spread over 7 days, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Darkshore 64.8 19.8 - Take the portal from Stormwind to Darnassus*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way Darkshore 41.2 74.8 - Fly there
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Each character gets one looted kill of its rare per turn of the warfront, not per calendar week, so "weekly" understates the wait (Wowhead comments, both guides). Each side has its own rare and its own turn, so an Alliance and a Horde character between them get an attempt in every turn.
A full turn of the cycle is two 7-day warfront phases plus two contribution phases (wiki). How long the contribution phases run today was not established; guides say anything from a few days to four weeks for the whole cycle.
About 19 looted kills are expected at 5.23%; one commenter in 2025 was at 81 without it. Guides say the rare comes back 5-10 minutes after a kill.
The coordinates are the middle of Wowhead's recorded positions: Moxo 63.2-67.0, 18.4-20.6, and Athil 40.4-41.6, 73.0-76.6 (she walks a path).
The two items are named differently and teach the same spell: Wowhead titles 166434 Captured Umber Nightsaber and 166803 Umber Nightsaber, and the wiki has the names the other way round.
Not established: whether the Warfronts feature has to be unlocked at the warfront table first (one guide says its opening quest may be needed, another asks for a whole quest chain), and whether a character below level 50 can see the rares.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
