Drops from a rare in the Battle for Azeroth version of Darkshore, a different one for each side and only while that side holds the Darkshore warfront: Alliance characters kill the orc Croz Bloodrage, who drops it as a Captured Kaldorei Nightsaber, Horde characters kill the nightsaber Shadowclaw in the Withering Thicket, north of the Ruins of Auberdine. Both items teach the same mount, and each character gets one looted kill per turn of the warfront.
Chance 4.37% once a week, so about 23 tries on average — Wowhead, Alliance item (166437, Captured Kaldorei Nightsaber) from Croz Bloodrage (npc 149655): 1,176 mounts in 26,887 recorded loots, read 2026-10-11. Wowhead's tooltip for the Horde item (166435, from Shadowclaw) shows 5.11%; its counts were not read. The counts may include kills made after a character's one chance of the turn was used, which would put the real chance per counted kill higher

- The character's own faction in control of the Darkshore warfront; under the other side's control its rare is not there. The warfront table (Boralus harbour, Port of Zandalar) and the faction's world quests on the Darkshore map show who holds it · 7 days

Getting there
/way Darkshore 50.5 32.5 - Take the portal from Stormwind to Darnassus*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way Darkshore 39.6 33.2 - Take the portal from Western Earthshrine to Mount Hyjal
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight

Notes and sources
Each character gets one looted kill of its rare per turn of the warfront, not per calendar week, so "weekly" understates the wait. Each side has its own rare and its own turn, so an Alliance and a Horde character between them get an attempt in every turn.
Wowhead's guide (updated 2019): 'You can kill the rares as often as you want, but you can only get a chance at their special loot once per character per contribution cycle', and rares can be looted again 'once your faction takes control of Darkshore'. A 2021 comment on the Alliance item puts a try at once every two weeks, on the day control comes back, which for Darkshore was a Friday; one of 2026 got the mount after several weeks across many characters. How long a turn runs today was not established; for the other Darkshore mounts, guides were found saying anything from a few days to four weeks for the whole cycle.
About 23 looted kills are expected at 4.37% (about 20 at the Horde item's 5.11%).
Which rare is whose comes from Wowhead's guide and the items' tooltips; the journal lists both creatures without saying. The wiki's page for the mount (edited 2026) names Shadowclaw for the Horde and the Captured Kaldorei Nightsaber for the Alliance, and its page for Croz Bloodrage (edited 2025) lists that item in his loot.
The coordinates are the middle of Wowhead's tooltip positions: Croz Bloodrage (NPC 149655) 50.4-50.6, 32.4-32.6, and Shadowclaw (NPC 149663) 39.4-39.8, 32.4-33.6. Wowhead's guide gives 50.6, 32.4 and 39.8, 32.8. The wiki's page for Croz Bloodrage places him at the Maw of the Void and says he fights Grimhorn, the Horde's rare on the same spot by the guide's list; that subzone was not checked against the map and is left out of the place name. Both are level 51 rares by the tooltips, and Darkshore can be flown in (guide).
Not established, as for the Umber Nightsaber: whether the Warfronts feature has to be unlocked at the warfront table first, and whether a character below level 50 can see the rares. The item asks for Apprentice Riding and binds when picked up (Wowhead tooltip); the wiki has level 10.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
