How to get it

From Island Expeditions, in two ways at once. It is a rare reward at the end of an expedition on which thunderscale (storm) dragons were among the island's creatures, and those turn up only on Jorundall, and seldom; and it can be inside Jorundall Salvage, a crate that the salvage captain beside the Expedition Map sells for 175 Seafarer's Dubloons in the weeks Jorundall is one of the three islands on offer. The dubloons come from the expeditions themselves.

Chance 9.15% per try, so about 11 tries on average — Per crate. Wowhead: 152 mounts in 1,661 opened Jorundall Salvage (read 2026-10-11); it is the only container Wowhead has the mount in. The chance of the end-of-expedition reward was never published

Guide Wowhead: Island Expeditions and Salvage Crate Rewards - Mounts, Pets, Toys, Transmog

Before you go

  • 175 Seafarer's Dubloons for each crate: some 12 to 27 expeditions. The crate is only on sale in a week when Jorundall is one of the three islands, so the dubloons may have to wait for it · about 2.5 h

In all: about 2.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Captain Nightrunner, by the Expedition Map in Boralus Harbor
Boralus · 66.2, 32.2
/way Boralus 66.2 32.2
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Boralus*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
Captain Kitt, by the Expedition Map in the Port of Zandalar
Dazar'alor · 44.4, 94.2
/way Dazar'alor 44.4 94.2
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.2 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

About 11 crates are expected at Wowhead's figure, some 1,900 dubloons. The hours counted are for one crate, and the dubloon rate is the least certain figure. The time on the spot is buying and opening a crate; an expedition itself is the 5.5 minutes counted above.

The wiki says an island's crate needs that island among the week's three, out of eleven in rotation. Dubloons keep, so they can be saved for a Jorundall week, and they have moved between a warband's characters since patch 11.0 (as given for the Saltwater Seahorse). Players on Wowhead's page report the mount from the 1st, the 2nd and the 4th crate (2025) and the 6th (2026); one of them waited about five weeks for Jorundall Salvage to come on sale.

The sources disagree on the crates:

  • Wowhead's guide: Jorundall, Rotting Mire and Crestfall Salvage
  • the wiki: Jorundall Salvage only
  • Wowhead's loot data: Jorundall Salvage alone

The direct chance: since patch 8.1 the creatures being on the island is enough, with a better chance on higher difficulty (wiki; Blizzard's post quoted in Wowhead's guide). Wowhead's guide (updated 2021) says thunderscale dragons 'can be found rarely in Jorundall'; a 2023 comment got the mount on a Jorundall run after killing an elite Island Thunderscale.

The island cannot be chosen: the queue picks one of the week's three (a 2024 comment had Jorundall come up about twice an hour), and a 2025 comment says the same island does not come twice in a row.

Expeditions are queued at the Expedition Map next to the captains, Captain Nightrunner and Captain Kitt; their coordinates are from Wowhead's tooltips, as read for the Twilight Avenger. A hotfix of 17 June 2026 put expedition queueing right again in Midnight (wiki). The mount binds when picked up (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
