Before you go
- Mechagon opened on this character: at level 50 the Nazjatar introduction until its world quests open, then The Legend of Mechagon from Tinkmaster Overspark in Boralus or Gazlowe in Dazar'alor and the island's chain as far as Welcome to the Resistance, which opens the dailies · about 3 h
- The Mechagonian Threat: the island's main story, a short and straightforward chain · about 1.5 h
- Making the Mount: the twelve quests that build the Scrapforged Mechaspider, from Shop Project to Drive It Away Today, one a day. The last asks for a part built by Pascal-K1N6 from 8 S.P.A.R.E. Crates, 5 Energy Cells and 8 Chain Ignitercoils · about 2 h over 12 days
- Outside Influences: 15 different quests from Rustbolt's visitors. Two visitors turn up each day, each with one to three quests, and which ones come is random · about 2.5 h over 2 weeks
- Armed for Action: Rocket-Chief Fuselage's quest done on at least five of the days he visits, one weapon built each time (Volatile Blaster, Ricket's Special Delivery, Lightning Zap 5000, Supercollider, Boltspitter). Which weapon is offered does not follow a rotation, so it can take more than five visits · about 1 h over 4 weeks
- Junkyard Architect: 30 of the island's Junkyard Tinkering blueprints uploaded to Pascal-K1N6. They come from quests, vendors, chests, visitors and as chance drops from rares · about 3 h over 3 weeks
- Junkyard Apprentice: 250 items built at Pascal-K1N6; packing Spare Parts into S.P.A.R.E. Crates does not count. The cheapest item costs 50 Spare Parts, so about 12,500 Spare Parts · about 2 h
- Junkyard Machinist: 100 construction projects. A project counts when it is finished while the character stands by it and has given to it at least once. The cheap way is a day on which Flame Turrets are being built (Waren Gearhart tells the day's projects): 100 Spare Parts each, and a spot offers a new one about 15 minutes later · about 3 h
- Rest In Pistons: each of the island's 36 rares killed once. Many only appear with the day's visitor quest or construction project (a Drill Rig, for one), in rain, or in the island's alternate timeline · about 4 h over 3 weeks
- Available in Eight Colors: every paint for the X-995 Mechanocat. Five are chance drops from rares, one from Mechanized Chests, and one from three kinds of box; a player names the island's recycling as the way to that one, at the cost of a lot of materials · about 2 h
- Junkyard Melomaniac: the Rustbolt Gramophone built (its blueprint is a chance drop from a rare) and its introduction quest done, which gives the first record, then five more: from rares, from the Data Anomalies of a visitor quest, from Drill Rig rares, and from the box given by the Reclamation Rig event on hard mode · about 2 h
In all: about 26 h of play, spread over 4 weeks, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Mechagon Island 71.4 32.4 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Boralus*
- Fly the rest of the way
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
- Take the sub from Zuldazar to Mechagon*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The mount's item is Keys to the Model W (Wowhead tooltip, wiki). How the keys are handed over was not found: a 2025 reply could not find them on any character after the achievement completed.
The place given above is a hub chosen for the route, Pascal-K1N6 in Rustbolt as for the X-995 Mechanocat, not a place the mount is handed over; the 30 minutes are an estimate for one day's round of visitors, projects and rares. Getting there: the flight from Boralus or Dazar'alor, or for the Alliance the portal by the Stormwind Embassy to Mechagon City and the teleporter pad at its foot (a 2024 comment).
Patch 11.0.7 (17 December 2024) made it easier, when Mecha-Done became part of A Farewell to Arms (see Jani's Trashpile): Outside Influences went from every visitor quest to 15 and Junkyard Architect from every blueprint to 30 (Wowhead's guide, updated 2025; comments of 2024, one from a player who found the achievement complete on logging in). The wiki's pages for those two still list everything.
Account-wide since a hotfix of November 2019, and since patch 11.0 blueprints and the single achievements count across characters too (wiki; a 2024 comment).
Time: the hours here add up to about 26 and are estimates throughout; the gates are the twelve days of the Mechaspider and the visitors, above all Rocket-Chief Fuselage. What players report:
- a 2025 commenter did 'a lot of this from fresh over the last couple weeks'
- a 2024 comment on Jani's Trashpile: about a month of 30 minutes a day
- another guide: 'several weeks'
- before the cuts, one took three months of daily play (a 2024 comment)
Sources disagree in places:
- Wowhead's guide has two visitors a day and one Mechaspider quest a day
- conquestcapped.com's guide (2026, a boosting site's) has three visitors and no daily lock on the Mechaspider
- wow.gg's guide for the mount (updated 2026) lists nine achievements under names the game does not use and was not relied on
Whether the X-995 Mechanocat itself (its blueprint costs 500 gold) has to be owned before the paints count was not established.
Wowhead's Mechagon guide, linked second, is the one the Farewell to Arms guide and the achievement's own page point to for the blueprints and the story; it was read for the X-995 Mechanocat in 2026 and not opened again. The item asks for level 10 since patch 9.0.1 and binds when picked up (an excerpt of the wiki's item page; Wowhead tooltip).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
