How to get it

Reward of the quest Wander Not Alone, the end of raising the orphaned direhorn hatchling at the Warbeast Kraal in Zuldazar, Horde only. The hatchling's first quests are done in one sitting and end with it asleep; from level 50 it wakes (An Unending Sleep) and is raised with one quest a day for about two weeks, with a chain to restore Torcali's wayshrines part of the way through, until its growth bar is full. The last five quests then follow at once and end with Torcali, who hands the mount over.

Time there about 15 min a visit

Guide wow.gg: Child of Torcali

Before you go

  • The hatchling's first quests at the Warbeast Kraal, from The Orphaned Hatchling until it falls asleep (the Naptime popup); logging out and in again ends the nap · about 0.5 h
  • Raising it, from level 50: An Unending Sleep, A Loa Without a Temple, A Show of Faith and Sleep, Eat, Repeat, then one quest a day at the kraal (feeding it when it asks) until the growth bar fills, with the wayshrine chain on the way (The Wanderer's Call, The Direhorn and the Saurid, Wayshrines of Zuldazar, One Road Ends, Roo'li's Memory, Torcali's Blessing) · about 6 h over 2 weeks
  • The last chain once the bar is full: The Trust You've Earned, Mountain On the Move, Heresy at the Crossroad, The Direhorn Mother's Fury and Wander Not Alone, from Jo'nok, Bulwark of Torcali, through Nazmir and Zuldazar to Torcali · about 1 h

In all: about 7.5 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Direhorn Hatchling, Warbeast Kraal (where the chain starts and each day's quest is taken)
Zuldazar · 65.6, 41.4
/way Zuldazar 65.6 41.4
From Orgrimmar about 1.1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Horde only to earn: Wowhead's data has Wander Not Alone (quest 55798) as a Horde quest that requires level 50, and the wiki marks every quest of the chain Horde. Once learned the mount can be summoned on Alliance characters too (Wowhead's top comment, 2019). The first quests can be done earlier, but the hatchling sleeps until level 50 (a 2020 comment from a player who had it asleep since level 30).

The place given above is a judgement call. The mount is handed over by Torcali, whom Wowhead's tooltip puts at 68.4, 29.5 in Zuldazar, but nothing can be done there before the last day, so the place given is the hatchling in the Warbeast Kraal, where the chain starts and the daily quest is taken. Its coordinates are a Wowhead commenter's (65.65, 41.35, 2020); wow.gg gives roughly 67, 41 for the pens and 68, 42 for the calf, and neither was checked against Wowhead's data. Jo'nok, who gives the last quest, is in Nazmir by Wowhead's tooltip (28.5, 89.5 and 23.2, 73.8).

How the raising goes, from a much-liked 2020 comment:

  • after the first day's chains a growth bar shows above the hatchling
  • dailies fill it once (the cheapest food)
  • then comes the wayshrine chain
  • then dailies for three fifths of a bar (the middle food), and the hatchling grows
  • more dailies (the dearest food) until the bar is full

An Unending Sleep is picked up from the sleeping hatchling and sends the player to Beastlord L'kala, and The Direhorn Mother's Fury holds three trials (comments of 2019).

Known snags:

  • the daily sometimes fails to show (wow.gg: relog or fly out and back)
  • feeding can need a word with the nearby NPC first (a 2023 comment)
  • a player who left it for months found the half-grown direhorn small again (2020), so it is best done in one run of days

wow.gg's guide (updated 2026) is the only step-by-step guide found and is linked for that reason, but its quest names differ from the game's: it has 'Trust Well Earned' and 'The Wrath of the Mother of Direhorns' for The Trust You've Earned and The Direhorn Mother's Fury, and lists eleven quests in the first part that were not checked. The names here are Wowhead's and the wiki's. Wowhead has no guide of its own for this mount: its item page lists only two general collecting guides, which were not opened.

The quest also completes the achievement How to Train Your Direhorn (wiki). The newest Wowhead comment is of 2023, so nothing read says whether Midnight changed anything. The item binds when picked up.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
