How to get it

Rare drop from the HK-8 Aerial Oppression Unit, the fourth boss of Operation: Mechagon, on Mythic difficulty. It is the last boss of the Junkyard half and cannot be harmed until the three before it are dead: King Gobbamak, Gunker, and Trixie and Naeno. Each character has one try a week.

Chance Never published. Wowhead's drop list for the mount (read 2026-10-11) names the boss on Mythic without any loot counts, and its tooltip shows no chance. The figure players and wow.gg pass round is about 0.5%, a guess; one commenter of 2019 saw 6 drop in 148 kills, other players' drops included, and put it near 1%

Inside Operation: Mechagon, a dungeon (Mythic)

Time there about 10 min a visit

Guide wow.gg: Mechagon Peacekeeper

Before you go

  • The way to Mechagon Island. The dungeon can be entered without the island's introduction quests; a character that has not done them flies across from the north-west of Kul Tiras · about 0.2 h

In all: about 0.2 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Operation: Mechagon entrance, Rustbolt
Mechagon Island · 73.6, 36
/way Mechagon Island 73.6 36
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.7 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Boralus*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
  2. Take the sub from Zuldazar to Mechagon*
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Mythic only: the wiki, wow.gg and the journal say so, and a 2020 comment adds that the Heroic version does not drop it. Hard mode is not needed (a 2026 comment, +5). It is switched on by killing the first three bosses while the HK-8 hovers over them, and then the boss's Annihilation Ray comes much faster (comments of 2023); the mount drops either way, so the three are best killed when it has flown on.

In the fight a player has to run out and channel at a pylon (comments; wow.gg calls it hacking an overload station) to take down the boss's shield; a 2026 comment notes that the rotating beams on the way there can be jumped.

The weekly lock is per character (wow.gg: 'The Mythic dungeon has a weekly reset'; the wiki's page on lockouts: 'Raids, world bosses, and Mythic Dungeons have weekly lockouts'), which is why commenters run many characters. Several describe keeping one character saved after the third boss and inviting others into that copy.

The dungeon was shut to this route from late February to August 2025, while its Workshop half was in the Mythic+ rotation, and has been back since (comments of 2025). The time on the spot is an estimate from wow.gg's 5 to 10 minutes for the Junkyard half at level 80. The entrance coordinates are wow.gg's; the game's entrance table has no entry for this dungeon, and the wiki says only that the entrance is in Rustbolt.

A 2026 comment says a housing endeavour with a mechagnome theme puts a portal to Mechagon in the neighbourhood centre, and that an NPC beside it lets a character skip the island's opening quests; not checked.

With no published chance, the length of the hunt is only known from players' tallies in Wowhead's comments: the mount after 10, 16, 37, 92, 102, 109, 273, 358, 500, 606, 618 and 812 kills, and one player past 1,045 without it. A 2026 reply confirms it still drops. By the comments the same boss drops a companion pet (item 169385) far more often: one player counted 27 of them in 1,045 kills.

Another way to the same mount, not counted here: Reins of the Quantum Courser, from Chrono-Lord Deios in Dawn of the Infinite on Mythic, turns into one of the old dungeon mounts; Wowhead records this one in 9 of 73 opened. Wowhead also lists the Challenger's Cache of the old Mythic+ version (27 in 10,972), which is gone. The wiki says the mount can turn up on the Black Market Auction House.

A flying mount since patch 9.2; the item asks for level 10 and binds when picked up (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
