Rare drop from Soundless, a rare fathom ray that floats above the coral trees of the Coral Forest in Nazjatar. He appears at one of seven spots, comes back only every few hours, and each character can loot him once a day.
Chance 1.47% once a day, so about 68 tries on average — Wowhead (item page, read 2026-10-11): 220 mounts in 14,985 recorded loots of Soundless (1.47%), a count pooled over all the years since 2019; the tooltip shows the same. Players hold that the chance was raised with patch 9.1.5: a count kept from one Discord's kill reports after that patch has 60 mounts in 1,279 kills (4.7%, about 1 in 21; Wowhead comment of June 2022). Wowhead's own rare-mounts guide (updated 17 November 2025) still says about 0.5%, 1 in 200. The recorded count is used

- Fly the rest of the way

line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
He floats on top of the coral, out of reach from the ground; Wowhead's guide names the Deepcoral Pod and the X-52 Rocket Helmet for a character that cannot fly there. Whether flying still has to be unlocked in Nazjatar was not checked; the place is marked as flyable like those of the other Nazjatar mounts.
The place given above is the one nearest the middle of the seven spawn points from Wowhead's guide (Wowhead's tooltip for him shows the same seven clusters):
- 58.1, 42.0
- 60.0, 48.2
- 62.4, 59.5
- 64.8, 51.7
- 54.7, 50.4
- 53.9, 42.1
- 57.6, 51.6
The wait is most of the cost. Wowhead's guide gives a spawn timer of about 2-8 hours; players in 2023-2025 report 2 to 4 hours (2 h 05 to 3 h 48 over 68 tries; 'within 2 hours - 3 hours'; never before two hours on a fresh shard). The time on the spot is an estimate from that: arriving at an unknown point of a two-to-four-hour cycle means about an hour and a half of waiting on average, with seven spots to keep an eye on.
About 68 kills are expected at 1.47%, 21 at the players' 4.7%. Recent reports on Wowhead: 7 tries (2024), 12 (2024), 17 (2025), 68 (2023). The loot is once a day per character (hidden quest 56298, a 2019 comment).
The journal files the mount under Profession, a known slip (a 2021 comment); the mount's tooltip data says 'Drop: Soundless'. One 2025 comment says only 'Mount is tradeable'; the tooltip has the item binding when picked up, and what the commenter meant was not established.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
