Notes and sources
Alliance characters only. The place given above and its coordinates are the same as for the Golden Gryphon and the Snowy Gryphon, which the vendor sells beside this one, and were not looked up again: the wiki's 71.2, 72.2, and Wowhead's tooltip for him (NPC 43768) at 71.2-71.6, 72.2-72.6.
The wiki's page for the Ebon Gryphon (as read in 2026) names no reputation and no other source, and lists the same mount at the same price from:
- Grunda Bronzewing, gryphon keeper in Hellfire Peninsula
- Brunn Flamebeard, gryphon keeper in Shadowmoon Valley
- Durgan Thunderbeak, gryphon keeper in Borean Tundra
- Mei Francis in Dalaran
That page gives level 25 for the item (since patch 9.0.1) and Apprentice Riding (since patch 9.0.2); the Golden Gryphon is recorded at level 10 since patch 11.0, so the 25 may be out of date. Not checked in the game. The item binds when picked up (Wowhead tooltip). Wowhead's page for this mount was not read.
Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
