How to get it

Reward of Drust and Ashes, the last quest of the Night Fae covenant campaign: a scenario, the battle for the Grove of Awakening, that ends with the death of Gorak Zhar. Lord Herne gives it after The Call of the Hunt and the Winter Queen takes it in at the Heart of the Forest. The campaign's final chapter needs Renown 22 with the Night Fae.

Guides Wowhead: The Story of the Night Fae Covenant Campaign · wow.gg: Enchanted Dreamlight Runestag

Before you go

  • The Night Fae campaign from For Queen and Grove! to The Call of the Hunt: about 90 quest steps in eight chapters by the wiki's count (Wowhead's guide counts nine chapters) · about 6 h
  • Night Fae Renown 22 for the last chapter (earlier chapters open at 5, 8, 11, 13, 17 and 20). The campaign supplies part of it; the rest comes from the covenant's weekly and daily activities. An account that has had a covenant at Renown 80 can buy the Broker Mark of Distinction from Au'Dara in Oribos for 500 gold, which sets the current covenant's Renown to 60 · about 3 h

In all: about 9 h of play, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The journal files it as a drop; it is a quest reward (wiki, quest 60108; Wowhead's guide). Wowhead's quest tooltip: defend the Grove of Awakening from the Drust and slay Gorak Zhar. A character belongs to one covenant at a time, so the quest is done on a Night Fae.

By Wowhead's guide the last chapter runs We Strike Now (needs Renown 22), Assault on Darkreach, Their Last Line of Defense and Ingra Drif, Unmasked, The Call of the Hunt, Drust and Ashes; the wiki lists the same chapter as five steps.

The wiki puts Lord Herne at 38.9, 63.4 and the Winter Queen at 50.9, 29.0 in the Heart of the Forest; the place given above is that hand-in spot on the Ardenweald map, worked out from the game's map tables. The time on the spot is an estimate for the scenario; wow.gg says the last fight is over in under a minute at the level cap.

wow.gg says only Night Fae members can summon the mount. The notes for the plain Dreamlight Runestag have it from the wiki that Renown 80 with the Night Fae makes such a mount usable by every character of the Warband; that was not checked again for this one.

Renown: the wiki's renown page describes the three-a-week limit of 2020 and a catch-up since patch 9.1 that gives characters behind in Renown a better chance of it from every activity. wow.gg (updated 2026) lists the weekly anima hand-in, tasks in the Maw and Torghast as sources and says a chapter opens at the weekly reset after its Renown is reached.

wow.gg also differs from the wiki in places: it names the chapters differently, puts one at Renown 3, and says the Broker Mark gives Renown 40 where the wiki has 60 since patch 9.2.5. Whether any way of skipping the campaign on a later character still gives the mount was not established.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
