Rare drop from the Gorged Shadehound, the end of the event Hunt: Shadehounds at the Prodigum in the Beastwarrens, in the south of the Maw. While that hunt is the active one, kill the six groups feeding on souls there (a Mawsworn Soulfeeder and two shadehounds each); the Gorged Shadehound then becomes attackable, flees into the cave behind it when hurt, and is finished at the bottom, reached by the chain.
Chance 1.84% once a week, so about 54 tries on average — Wowhead: 365 in 19,842 recorded loots of the Gorged Shadehound (read 2026-10-11), per looting player. wow.gg gives 1 to 3% without a source

Notes and sources
The hunt that drops it is up only half a week in two. There are four hunts, and the active one changes every half week (wow.gg; a 2026 comment: 3.5 days up, 10.5 days off). wow.gg says to look after the weekly reset and names no sign in the game of which hunt is up. While it is up the event comes round again every 5 to 10 minutes (Wowhead comments of 2025 and 2026), so players bring many characters.
The hound can be looted once a week by each character (wiki, hotfix of 2 December 2020); with the hunt up half a week in two, that is in practice one try a fortnight on each character. About 54 kills are expected at 1.84%; commenters report 19, 46, 52, 107 and 173.
Coordinates are the middle of Wowhead's tooltip positions (53.4-53.6, 78.4-79.2); the wiki has 53.7, 79.1. Flying is not possible in the Maw. The time on the spot is an estimate for one run of the event.
Whether the unlock is needed is where the sources part. The wiki and wow.gg give Ambivalent with Ve'nari and Rule 6 as the condition for the Beastwarrens, and wow.gg says a character without them cannot enter at all. Wowhead commenters of 2020, 2024 and 2025 went in on characters with nothing unlocked, were feared and damaged on the way, and still looted the mount. A 2026 comment on the Fallen Charger's page adds that a character with the Korthia skip is not frightened in the Beastwarrens; that was not confirmed elsewhere. This guide keeps the unlock as the way to do it, but it is not certain that it is needed.
Ve'nari's reputation has been shared across the warband since patch 11.1.5 (wiki), so one character's standing serves the others; a 2025 comment says the quests are shared too.
The event has a long history of sticking: comments of 2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026 report it not starting or its objectives not showing. The cures are a relog, the other War Mode setting, or a group on another realm; a later 2026 comment says it works again.
Other reports:

- the mount can drop before the hound jumps down (2025)
- a class-trial character carried in on a two-seat mount looted it (2026); a later 2026 reply says that no longer works
The mount could be ridden in the Maw when no other could; a 2025 comment says mounts in general can be ridden there now.
