Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Won from Sundancer, a rare elite cloudrunner that flies along the cliffs in the south-east corner of Bastion. Click the Ancient Memorial for the Sunrider's Blessing buff (30 minutes), go to the cliffs to the north, jump off as Sundancer passes below, use a Skystrider Glider and click the horse to ride it, then press Soothe until it calms and carries you back to the memorial. Speak to it there to accept its challenge and fight it down to 10% health while the hidden Echo of Dresaelus effect from the glider still runs (5 minutes); the mount is then put in the bags. A character can try once a day.
Time there about 15 min a visit
Guides Warcraft Mounts: Sundancer · Wowhead: Path of Ascension (making the Skystrider Glider)
Before you go
- A Skystrider Glider, used up on each try: made by a Kyrian character through Ascension Crafting at Dactylis in Elysian Hold. The blueprint is the reward for defeating Kalisthene in a Trial of Wisdom in the Path of Ascension, which takes that sanctum feature at tier 3 (tiers 1 to 3 cost 16,500 anima and 40 Redeemed Souls in all, with 1 hour, 12 hours and 1 day of research) and Kalisthene beaten on Courage and Loyalty first. The glider itself is not bound, so it can be made on one character and used on a character of any covenant · about 12 h over 8 days
In all: about 12 h of play, spread over 8 days, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Bastion 60 93.9 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
- Take the flight master to Bastion
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
- Take the flight master to Bastion
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The mount is certain only under a condition stated in Blizzard's own support article: 'You must kill Sundancer while you are under the effect of Echo of Dresaelus. If you die, you will lose the effect and killing Sundancer will not grant you the mount. You will then need a new glider to start the process over.' The effect is not shown on the character. By Wowhead's top comment (2021, citing Blizzard support) it lasts 5 minutes from the moment the glider turns the player into a kyrian, so the soothing and the fight have to fit inside that.
Only the Skystrider Glider counts: a Goblin Glider or dismounting onto the horse lets a player sit on it but gives no Soothe button and no mount (comments of 2020, 2023, 2024 and 2026). The glider has a 5 minute cooldown, and one is spent on each jump, hit or miss.
Sundancer's route by Wowhead's tooltip runs from about 61, 79 down the east cliffs to 59, 96. The jump-off point is from a Wowhead news post (seen only as a search excerpt), and a 2022 comment names the rock edge at 61.0, 81.4.
Sundancer is not always there: commenters put the respawn at 45 to 75 minutes, and several waited many hours or found none for days. Switching War Mode shows a second copy of the zone (comments of 2025 and 2026). A visit can come up empty; the 15 minutes on the spot assume it is flying. It is once a day for each character (comments of 2022 and 2024).
Without the effect the mount is only a chance, never measured: comments of 2021 and 2022 tell of wins that gave just anima, and Wowhead has no drop count for the item. Warcraft Mounts says a player who follows the steps 'should be guaranteed' the mount. The ride gives the achievement In the Hot Seat, which is not the mount.
Whether helpers get it is unsettled: comments of 2021 say anyone who used a glider under the blessing and saw the kill within 5 minutes got the mount too.
Sources differ on the tier:
- Warcraft Mounts and a Wowhead comment: tier 3
- a mein-mmo article of 2020: Teachings of Wisdom, which is tier 4 (12,500 anima and 40 souls more)
- Wowhead's guide: tier 3 opens 'a few Trials of Wisdom', without naming them
The glider's materials are Ascension Crafting reagents from Shadowlands creatures: Elysian Feathers, Champion's Pelt, Calloused Bone and Nightforged Steel. A search excerpt of the Wowhead news post gives 8, 4, 4 and 2; not checked.
The glider is not bound (its Wowhead tooltip has no binding line; a 2020 comment says it 'can be traded'), so it also changes hands between players, which is how most commenters got theirs. That is a mention only; the route counted here is making one.
Guides: no Wowhead guide walks through this mount (its 2020 Bastion rares guide has one line), so the Warcraft Mounts page is first for the steps and Wowhead's Path of Ascension guide second for making the glider.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
