Notes and sources
Alliance characters only: the wiki has it as Alliance only, and Wowhead's page marks it for the Alliance and lists the Alliance's races. No reputation is asked for, and standing with Stormwind lowers the price (Wowhead's racial mount guide, as read for the Swift Purple Gryphon; not opened for this mount).
The price is the one point where sources differ:
- the journal gives 'Cost: 50 gold', and so does the source line of Wowhead's tooltip, which repeats the journal
- Wowhead's sold-by list for this item has all six sellers at 1,000,000 copper, 100 gold
- the wiki's page for Tannec Stonebeak prices the three ordinary gryphons (Ebon, Golden, Snowy) at 50 gold and the four swift ones (Blue, Green, Purple, Red) at 100
- a 2020 Wowhead comment, quoted for the Swift Purple Gryphon, paid 95 gold for a swift gryphon at Tannec Stonebeak, which is 100 less a 5% reputation discount
The price given here is 100, as for the Swift Green and Swift Purple Gryphons. This guide's entry for the Swift Red Gryphon took the journal's 50, and the four should be brought into line.
The other sellers, at the same price (Wowhead and the wiki):
- Grunda Bronzewing, gryphon keeper in Hellfire Peninsula
- Brunn Flamebeard, gryphon keeper in Shadowmoon Valley
- Durgan Thunderbeak, gryphon keeper in Borean Tundra
- Mei Francis in Dalaran (both the Northrend city and the Broken Isles one on Wowhead's list)
Coordinates are the wiki's for Tannec Stonebeak, who stands near the flight master Dungar Longdrink. This guide's other gryphons have Wowhead's tooltip for him (NPC 43768) at 71.2-71.6, 72.2-72.6, not read again here.
The wiki's infobox has the item at level 10 while its patch 9.0.1 note says level 27; Wowhead's page asks only for Apprentice Riding. The item binds when picked up. The item's comments on Wowhead have nothing newer than 2011 apart from a 2026 video link. No guide is linked: it is a plain purchase.
Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
