How to get it

Chance item, as the Reins of the Colossal Slaughterclaw, in Supplies of the Undying Army, the paragon cache of The Undying Army in Maldraxxus. Once Exalted, every further 10,000 reputation opens the quest Supplies from The Undying Army at Nalcorn Talsen, the faction's quartermaster at the Theater of Pain, which hands over one cache.

Chance 3.38% per try, so about 30 tries on average — Per cache. Wowhead's page for the reins (read 2026-10-11): 123 in 3,640 opened Supplies of the Undying Army, per opening player, counted since 2020. The item's own tooltip shows no chance

Guide Wowhead: The Undying Army Reputation Guide

Before you go

  • Exalted with The Undying Army: 42,000 reputation from Neutral. World quests in Maldraxxus give 75 each and some 100 more, a calling that points at Maldraxxus 1,500 (a challenge 2,000), the two weekly dungeon quests in Oribos 500 each, the Necrolord Assault in the Maw 125 a quest and 1,000 at its end, and many of Maldraxxus's side quests 135 once · about 18 h over 5 weeks
  • 10,000 reputation past Exalted for each cache, from the same world quests, callings and weekly quests · about 5 h over 10 days

In all: about 23 h of play, spread over 5 weeks, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The place given above is Nalcorn Talsen, at 50.8, 53.4 by the wiki and Wowhead's guide; his own tooltip was not read. The quest and the cache ask for level 60 (wiki). No covenant is taken as needed: Wowhead's page for the item names none, and its guide marks only the faction's two cloaks as needing the Necrolord covenant, not the mount; no comment says outright that a character of another covenant got it.

Each cache gives one roll and costs another 10,000 reputation, so there is no lockout, only the time to refill the bar. About 30 caches are expected at 3.38%, which at the pace estimated here is most of a year.

That pace is the weak figure: it is arithmetic from a guide written in 2021, when the content was current, and how many world quests and callings Maldraxxus offers a day now was not checked. A web search quoted Icy Veins as saying Exalted takes nearly 2.5 to 3 months even with a contract; that page could not be opened and probably dates from the start of Shadowlands. The wiki says the faction has been a Warband reputation since patch 11.1.5 (April 2025); whether several characters can then fill the same bar faster was not established.

A Contract: The Undying Army adds 10 reputation to every Shadowlands world quest, and the Darkmoon Faire's hat or carousel adds 10% for an hour (Wowhead's guide). The Necrolord Assault takes the Chains of Domination campaign through Focusing the Eye (as for the Undying Darkhound) and comes round about every other week.

Wowhead's comments on the reins (25, the newest of 2025) are mostly about luck: many got it from the first or second cache in 2021, others had nothing after 6, 10 and 13, and a player in 2025 had opened 5 or 6 since Dragonflight without it. A 2021 comment supposes the chance was raised in patch 9.1, and later ones (2022, 2024) wonder the same after a first-cache drop; nothing confirms it. Wowhead's count is pooled over the whole time.

The cache also holds 3,500 to 3,700 gold (wiki), Reservoir Anima, and a chance at the pet Micromancer's Mystical Cowl and the toy Infested Arachnid Casing (Wowhead's guide, wiki).

Wowhead's guide still speaks of Shadowlands as current; its list of sources and its paragon section are what it is linked for. No wow.gg guide to this mount was found (two guessed addresses answered 404).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
