How to get it

Rare drop from Tahonta, a rare tauralus in Maldraxxus south-west of the Theater of Pain, but only for a Necrolord who has the construct Neena at their side when it is killed. Neena is one of the bodies built at the Necrolords' Abominable Stitching: she is freed from a cage at the Putrid Mound, asks for a body in the quest Every Dog Has Its Day, and is built for 20 Malleable Flesh once the stitchyard is at its second rank.

Chance 0.62% once a day, so about 161 tries on average — Wowhead (item page read 2026-10-11): 299 mounts in 48,174 recorded loots of Tahonta, the 0.62% its tooltip shows. The count takes in every looter, and most of them cannot get the mount (other covenants, and Necrolords without Neena), so the chance for a character that qualifies is higher and was never published. Players' own counts with Neena out run from 9, 40, 65 and about 100 kills to 793, 1,076 and 1,391 (Wowhead comments, 2021 to 2025); one of 2024 thinks 1 in 200 about right

Before you go

  • Abominable Stitching raised to its second rank with Arkadia Moa at the Seat of the Primus: 6,500 Reservoir Anima (1,500 and 5,000) and 18 Redeemed Souls (6 and 12), with research of 1 hour and 12 hours, and the quests from Rathan that open the stitchyard and its crafting table. Souls come from the weekly quest Return Lost Souls: 5 a week below Renown 15, then 10, 15 and 20 a week from Renown 15, 24 and 32 · about 5 h over 8 days
  • Neena freed and built: kill Soul Harvester Anka at the Putrid Mound (Maldraxxus 70, 41) for the key to her cage, take her quest Every Dog Has Its Day to Rathan at the Butchers Block, gather 20 Malleable Flesh (dropped by nearly any creature in the Shadowlands once the stitchyard is open) and build Construct Body: Neena at the stitching table; then ask her at the stitchyard to come along · about 1 h

In all: about 6 h of play, spread over 8 days, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

It only drops for a Necrolord with Neena out, and nothing in the game says so: the journal names only Tahonta and the covenant, and through the expansion's first months nobody got the mount at all. Players worked it out in 2021 (Wowhead comments; Wowhead ran a news post on it, which was not read), and the wiki now says it 'only drops for Necrolords with Neena summoned'.

Tahonta is at 44.0-44.6, 50.4-52.0 by Wowhead's tooltip; wow.gg gives 44.6, 50.8 in one place and 44.5, 51.9 in another. The wiki places Tahonta in the Stabbing Wastes. The loot is once a day for each character, and Tahonta is back 15 to 20 minutes after a kill (wow.gg), so there can be a wait; the time on the spot is the kill alone.

Neena has an ability that fetches the loot for her owner. The first finders got the mount by looting in the ordinary way and said the ability was not needed, while several later ones (2024, 2025) only got it after using Fetch each time or after letting Neena land a hit before the kill. Neither is established; using Fetch costs nothing.

About 161 daily kills are expected at the recorded 0.62%, which understates the real chance by an unknown amount. Every Necrolord character with Neena has its own daily chance, and players farm it on several. Whether a Renown level is needed as well was never settled: the first drops were all at Renown 31 or more and a 2025 comment still lists Renown 30+, but no failed kill has been pinned on Renown. The covenant campaign is not needed (a drop at 2 of 9 chapters, 2021).

Wowhead's guide to Abominable Stitching explains the ranks, the two materials and the crafting table but does not mention Neena or Tahonta. The fullest walk-through for a fresh character is a 2022 comment on Wowhead's page for the item:

  • join the Necrolords
  • first and second rank
  • the Soul Survivors quests from Rathan
  • Neena at 70, 41
  • her body
  • then the daily kill

wow.gg's guide (updated 2026) gives the same steps more briefly. The 2022 comment puts the stitchyard at Maldraxxus 56, 67 and suggests an item that lifts Renown to 60 (by this guide's other Shadowlands notes the Broker Mark of Distinction, for an account that has had a covenant at 80), after which the weekly soul quest pays 20. The wiki's own list of constructs gives Neena's cost (20 Malleable Flesh, no Superior Parts) but not the rank she needs.

wow.gg's guide calls the Armored Bonehoof Tauralus a Renown 39 reward, which this guide's notes for that mount (a drop from Sabriel the Bonecleaver) do not bear out, so its other details were taken with care. Tahonta also counts for Adventurer of Maldraxxus.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
