Notes and sources
Alliance characters only: Wowhead's tooltip lists the Alliance races, and the wiki has it as Alliance only. A reputation discount with Stormwind would lower the price a little.
The price is the one open point:
- the journal gives 'Cost: 50 gold', and so does the source line of Wowhead's tooltip, which repeats the journal
- Wowhead's sold-by list (2026) has all six sellers at 1,000,000 copper, 100 gold
- the wiki's page for Tannec Stonebeak (edited 2025) prices the three ordinary gryphons (Ebon, Golden, Snowy) at 50 gold and the four swift ones (Blue, Green, Purple, Red) at 100
The price given here is 100, the figure the two sources read from the vendor agree on. This guide's entry for the Swift Red Gryphon took the journal's 50 and called the wiki's 100 outdated; the two should be settled together at the vendor.
The other sellers, at the same price (Wowhead and the wiki):
- Grunda Bronzewing, gryphon keeper in Hellfire Peninsula
- Brunn Flamebeard, gryphon keeper in Shadowmoon Valley
- Durgan Thunderbeak, gryphon keeper in Borean Tundra
- Mei Francis in Dalaran
Coordinates are the wiki's for Tannec Stonebeak; Wowhead's tooltip for him (NPC 43768) has 71.2-71.6, 72.2-72.6, as read for the Snowy Gryphon and not read again.
The wiki's infobox has the item at level 10 while its patch 9.0.1 note says level 27, and it asks for Apprentice Riding since that patch.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
