In the Gift of the Silver Wind, the chest a larion sets down when the Vesper of the Silver Wind is rung at the Shrine of the Silver Wind in the north-west of Bastion. The vesper is rung with the Crystal Mallet of Heralds, which Forgelite Hephaesius at the Seat of Eternal Hymns forges once all 50 Anima Crystal Shards have been found: 45 hidden around Bastion, 2 in the Necrotic Wake and 3 in Spires of Ascension (the achievement Shard Labor).

Before you go
- The 45 Anima Crystal Shards of Bastion: small crystals on ledges, pillars, rooftops, under bridges and in caves all over the zone, each picked up by clicking it · about 1.25 h
- The 5 shards inside dungeons: 2 in the Necrotic Wake (behind the large fallen bell after the first boss; on the broken bridge at The Fall of Courage) and 3 in Spires of Ascension (behind a lounge chair by the first boss, behind a brazier after the second, on a ledge over the font in the third boss's room) · about 0.75 h
- The Crystal Mallet of Heralds from Forgelite Hephaesius at the Seat of Eternal Hymns (59.3, 31.4, south of the Spires of Ascension entrance), who forges it once all 50 shards are found · about 0.1 h
In all: about 2.1 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Bastion 36 26.5 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
- Take the flight master to Bastion
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
- Take the flight master to Bastion
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
No covenant is needed (Wowhead comments of 2020 and 2023), and the shard count is shared by the account: the top comment says 'The progress is shared with all characters', the wiki files Shard Labor under account-wide achievements, and a 2022 comment fetched a new mallet on another character. The same comment warns to ring the vesper outside a party: in a party only the first to open the chest got the mount.
The level: 'You have to be level 60 to see shards' (2020), repeated in 2024; not checked against the present level range.
The shards are objects named Anima Crystal Shard that can be seen from about 100 yards (2022 comment). Each one is its own hidden quest (61225 to 61300), which is how the scripts in the comments tell which are missing. Two numberings are in use (Zarillion's and varenne's), so a missing number has to be checked against the list it came from. The addon HandyNotes: Shadowlands shows them on the map, and Wowhead's news post recommends it; a 2024 comment found a treasure icon hiding a shard's pin at 56.2, 17.6.
Hard spots named by players of 2020, before flying:
- the arch at 48.4, 72.7
- the pillars at 53.5, 80.6 and at 24.6, 23.0 in the Citadel of Loyalty, where hostile elites stand
- a shard in the Hall of Beasts cave (55.6, 43.4 for the way in)
- a shard in a cave under Miri's Chapel (52.4, 9.4)
In the dungeons a shard taken by one player was at first gone for the others; replies of late 2020 say that was changed. A 2023 comment says only the first boss of the Necrotic Wake has to be killed, while Spires of Ascension takes more of the dungeon to open its flight points. Dungeon entrances from the game's own table: the Necrotic Wake at 40.1, 55.2 and Spires of Ascension at 58.6, 28.5, both in Bastion.
The vesper: the wiki has 36.1, 26.6 and the top Wowhead comment 36.04, 26.54, while Wowhead's tooltip for the object (355435) has 36.0, 25.2 and warcraftmounts.com 36, 25; the first pair is used. Hephaesius: 59.34, 31.44 in the comment, 59.2, 31.4 on the wiki. The item binds when picked up (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip).
Wowhead has no guide of its own for this mount. Its 2020 news post gives the method in a paragraph with the shard coordinates folded in; the item's comments are what players follow (varenne's table with notes and videos and Zarillion's waypoint list, both of 2020, with corrections up to 2026). Wowhead's Bastion Rares and Treasures guide (updated 2020), which the item's page links, does not mention the vesper at all and is not linked here. A guide at soyouplay.com came back empty, and Icy Veins was not tried.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
