How to get it

Rare drop, as the item Slime-Covered Reins of the Hulking Deathroc, from Violet Mistake, one of the seven monstrosities the Pool of Mixed Monstrosities at the House of Plagues in Maldraxxus can make. The pool makes a monstrosity once 30 Oozing Ingredients have been thrown in, and which one depends on the mix: equal amounts of Viscous Oil (red) and Mephitic Goo (blue), so 15 of each and none of the yellow Miscible Ooze, turn the pool purple and make Violet Mistake. The ingredients are left on the ground by the slimes killed around the pool and are carried to it one at a time. The mount can drop only from the day's first kill.

Chance 3.71% once a day, so about 27 tries on average — Wowhead's item page (read 2026-10-11): 352 mounts in 9,476 recorded loots of Violet Mistake, the 3.71% its tooltip shows. One chance a day for each character: after the day's first kill the monstrosity is no longer a rare and leaves no such loot (Wowhead comment of May 2026; the wiki)

Before you go

  • The two short quests at the House of Plagues, A Plague on Your House (speak with Vial Master Lurgy, Foul-Tongue Cyrlix and Boil Master Yetch) and Pool of Potions (carry three Viscous Oil to the pool): until they are done the slimes leave no ingredients · about 0.25 h

In all: about 0.3 h of play, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

About 27 daily kills are expected at 3.71%; players on Wowhead report 20, 25 without it, 31 and about 35 tries. Any character can loot it: comments report it on characters of every covenant and of none, some of them below level 60, and the wiki names no covenant.

The daily limit came with a hotfix early in Shadowlands; at launch it could be killed over and over for the mount (2020 comments, replies of 2021 and 2022). The wiki's page for the pool says the first monstrosity killed each day counts as a rare. Read strictly, that makes the day's chance go with the first monstrosity of any of the seven kinds, so do not join the kill of another one before Violet Mistake; no comment was found that tested this.

The mix is everyone's: every player nearby throws into the same pool, the world quest that sometimes runs there sends players to throw in whatever they carry, and one ingredient too many of the wrong colour spoils the try (comments tell of a sixteenth blue one, and of yellow thrown in on purpose). A pool left unfinished empties after a while (a 2025 reply: at 29 of 30 it had reset). The wiki gives only 'equal amounts'; 15 and 15 is wow.gg's reading and what the comments describe, and wow.gg says up to 8 yellow are tolerated, which was not checked.

Which slime leaves what (wiki):

  • Viscous Oil: Burning Extract and Colossal Plasma
  • Mephitic Goo: Colossal Goo and Prodigious Animate
  • Miscible Ooze: Diseased Remnant and Infectious Monstrosity

One slime leaves several ingredients, which vanish after a short while, so kill it close to the pool: 6 or 7 from one kill next to the pool, 4 or 5 from further away. A carried ingredient can be dropped into the pool from the air in a low pass, and Skyriding mounts keep their speed while carrying one (comments of 2024 and 2026). The blue ones are the scarce ones (comments of 2021 and 2024).

The 15 minutes on the spot are an estimate for gathering 30 ingredients without help and the kill; wow.gg says 3 to 5 minutes at level 80, and a 2023 comment calls it time-consuming alone.

The other six mixes (wiki):

  • mostly oil: Pulsing Leech
  • mostly goo: Corrupted Sediment
  • mostly ooze: Gelloh
  • oil and ooze: Burnblister
  • goo and ooze: Boneslurp
  • all three: Oily Invertebrate

Coordinates: Wowhead's tooltip for Violet Mistake has 58.4 to 58.6, 74.2 to 74.6, the wiki 58.6, 74.2, wow.gg 58.5, 74.2 for the pool. The item binds when picked up (Wowhead's tooltip).

Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
