How to get it

Craft it at the mount forge of Protoform Synthesis in Zereth Mortis from Schematic: Desertwing Hunter, 400 Genesis Motes, a Raptora Lattice and a Wind's Infinite Call. The schematic lies on top of a tall pillar in the Plain of Actualization; the lattice drops from the zone's raptora and the Wind's Infinite Call from Enhanced Avians.

  • The quests that open the mount forge once Sopranian Understanding is researched: Finding Tahli and the chain after it (The Final Song), then A New Architect · about 1.5 h over 2 days
  • The schematic, at 62.0, 43.5 on top of a tall pillar in the Plain of Actualization: fly up, or use a displacement ability such as Door of Shadows. It starts Schematic Reassimilation: Desertwing Hunter, handed in at the forge · about 0.25 h
  • 400 Genesis Motes (most creatures in Zereth Mortis), a Raptora Lattice (the zone's raptora, the hawk-like creatures) and a Wind's Infinite Call (dropped by Enhanced Avians, the mechanical birds around 74-81, 44-59 by the Sepulcher of the First Ones and around 45-51, 59-64) · about 2.5 h

Getting there

Mount Synthesis Forge, Protoform Repository
Zereth Mortis · 70.2, 28.6
/way Zereth Mortis 70.2 28.6
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.4 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
  2. Speak to Tal-Inara within Oribos to travel to Zereth Mortis
  3. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.4 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
  2. Speak to Tal-Inara within Oribos to travel to Zereth Mortis
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The recipe is 400 Genesis Motes, 1 Wind's Infinite Call and 1 Raptora Lattice (wiki; Wowhead's guide lists the same three for the schematic). The journal says only 'Protoform Synthesis'.

It shares the research gate of about 10 days and the forge unlock with the other Protoform Synthesis mounts, the Raptora Lattice with the Raptora Swooper and the Mawdapted Raptora, and the Wind's Infinite Call with the Vespoid Flutterer.

The Wind's Infinite Call binds to the Warband, is Unique (2), and has a low chance to come from an Olea Cache as well (wiki). Wowhead's guide says the rare reagents of mounts only start to drop once the research is done and the forge quests are finished, so it cannot be gathered ahead.

The Raptora Lattice also has a chance to come from an Olea Cache (wiki), and the notes for the Raptora Swooper have it more often from the rare raptora Garudeon and Tahkwitz, which was not read again. The other reagents drop as soon as the Cypher research is open and the short quest for the pet forge is done, except 'certain lattices used by mounts exclusively', which wait for the mount forge as well. The guide names only the wolves' lattice as an example, and its own table has the Raptora Lattice making three mounts and no pet, so it may well be another; that was not established.

The pillar: the guide gives no way up on foot. Whether a character can fly in Zereth Mortis depends on the zone's own flying unlock, which was not checked; Door of Shadows is the Venthyr ability, and the guide also allows an item with a like effect without naming it. Whether the schematic can be picked up before the mount forge is open was not established.

A 2022 comment on the guide lists every waypoint in it, this schematic's 62.0, 43.5 included, and a 2026 one gives a script by which the game says which schematics are held (quest 65381 for this one).

Guides give two spots for the forge: Wowhead's guide has 68.5, 30.1 for the Protoform Repository, 'by a cave' in the west of the Arrangement Index; the place given above is the spot used for the other forge mounts in this guide.

A flying mount; the item binds when picked up and asks for level 10 (wiki). Wowhead's page for the mount itself was not read, so no player comments on this mount were read. The wiki's page for the schematic is a stub that gives no place, and wow.gg has no page for this mount at the address tried.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
