How to get it

Craft it at the mount forge of Protoform Synthesis in Zereth Mortis from Schematic: Pale Regal Cervid, 400 Genesis Motes, a Cervid Lattice and a Protoform Sentience Crown. The schematic is the reward of the achievement Cyphers of the First Ones, which asks for every research at the Cypher Console in Exile's Hollow, all ranks of all four branches; that is the long part.

Before you go

  • Zereth Mortis campaign to chapter 3, which opens the Cypher Console in Exile's Hollow · about 4 h
  • The achievement Cyphers of the First Ones: all 22 researches of the Cypher Console with every rank, 4,549 Cyphers of the First Ones in all (the Metrial branch 550, Aealic 1,045, Dealic 1,450, Trebalim 1,504). Seven of them run on a timer: Cachial 1 hour, Aealic 18 hours, Altonian 5 days 18 hours, Dealic 3 days 18 hours, Sopranian 5 days 18 hours, Trebalim 3 days 18 hours and the first rank of Bassalim 1 day 18 hours, which is 21 days 13 hours when they run one after another. Cyphers are earned throughout Zereth Mortis and in the Sepulcher of the First Ones · about 18 h over 3 weeks
  • The quests that open the mount forge once Sopranian Understanding is researched: Finding Tahli and the chain after it (The Final Song), then A New Architect · about 1.5 h
  • The schematic: it comes by mail when the achievement is earned and starts Schematic Reassimilation: Pale Regal Cervid, handed in at the forge. If it is missing, the Servitor Interface at the forge hands out a replacement for nothing · about 0.25 h
  • 400 Genesis Motes (most creatures in Zereth Mortis), a Cervid Lattice (the zone's stags: Native Cervid, Chitali the Eldest) and a Protoform Sentience Crown (Dominated Worldbreaker and Dominated Laborer by Wowhead's guide; elite creatures of Zereth Mortis and the Sepulcher of the First Ones by the wiki; drop chance not published) · about 3 h

In all: about 26.8 h of play, spread over 3 weeks, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The recipe is 400 Genesis Motes, 1 Protoform Sentience Crown and 1 Cervid Lattice (wiki, Wowhead's guide). The journal says only 'Protoform Synthesis'.

What sets this mount apart from the other forge mounts is the schematic. Wowhead's guide (2026) gives it as the reward of the achievement Cyphers of the First Ones, for researching everything at the console, sent by mail; the achievement's tooltip lists all Metrial, Dealic, Aealic and Trebalim Cyphers. Sopranian Understanding, which the forge needs anyway, is part of the Dealic branch, so the forge's own research gate of about 10 days is inside the 21.5 days counted here. The first players had the achievement about 26 days after patch 9.2 came out (a 2022 Wowhead comment), which fits timers that run one at a time.

The achievement's progress is account-wide since patch 11.0 (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip), and Cyphers of the First Ones can be moved within the Warband since the same patch (wiki), so Cyphers earned on other characters can be sent to the one doing the research (a 2024 comment did just that).

The schematic was broken for a while. From patch 11.0 (July 2024) players who earned the achievement got no schematic, or handed it in and still could not craft the mount, and Blizzard's support answered that only the character that earned the achievement gets the reward (comments of 2024 to 2025; one player did the whole research on two more characters without result). 2025 comments say patch 11.1 put it right: the recipe shows at the forge, and the Servitor Interface there offers the schematic for nothing, as the wiki also says. A later 2025 comment found that offer only on another of the account's characters, so if it is missing, look on the character that did the research.

The crown binds to the Warband and is Unique (3); it has a low chance to come from an Olea Cache as well (wiki), and Buzz and the Ineffable Skitterer use it too. Wowhead's guide, as quoted for the Vespoid Flutterer, says the rare parts of mounts only start to drop once Sopranian Understanding is researched and the forge quests are done. The Cervid Lattice is shared with the Deathrunner and the Sundered Zerethsteed; a 2022 comment says elite and rare stags give it more often and names a rare at 51.6, 68.0.

Guides give two spots for the forge: Wowhead's guide 68.5, 30.1 for the Protoform Repository's cave, comments 70.0-70.2, 28.6 for the Servitor Interface inside; the place given above is the spot used for the other forge mounts in this guide. A ground mount; the item binds when picked up and asks for level 10 (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
