Hatched from a Small Corpsefly Egg, a rare drop for Necrolord characters from Fleshwing in Korthia. Fleshwing ends the Corpse Heap event south-east of Seeker's Quorum: a Necrolord talks to Cadaverous to start it, 25 necromancer corpses lying around the area are carried to the heap on foot, and when the heap is lit the corpsefly comes down. After three days of real time the egg turns into a Hatching Corpsefly Egg, which gives the mount.
Chance 0.82% once a day, so about 122 tries on average — Wowhead: 856 Small Corpsefly Eggs in 104,981 recorded loots of Fleshwing (read 2026-10-11; its tooltip for the egg says 0.82%). The count is over every looter and only Necrolord characters can get the egg, so a Necrolord's own chance is higher; by how much is not known

Notes and sources
Only a Necrolord can start the event, by talking to Cadaverous (Wowhead's guide and comments; wow.gg). Once it runs anyone can carry corpses (a 2021 comment), and others can join the kill but not loot the egg (comments of 2021; the wiki lists the egg for Necrolord players).
What drops is the Small Corpsefly Egg (item 187181), not the mount: it lasts three days of real time and then becomes the Hatching Corpsefly Egg, which always gives the Lord of the Corpseflies (wiki).
How the event runs:
- it is announced by Cadaverous's yell 'Search every crevice for the necromancers' corpses!' and shows as a star called Corpse Heap on the minimap
- the corpses glow purple; a carrier who mounts or gets into a fight drops the body
- a bar over the heap shows the count; the wiki has Dregs asking to light the heap at 18 and Cadaverous giving the order at 25
- since patch 9.1.5 Fleshwing appears on the bonfire instead of flying down (a 2021 comment)
wow.gg calls the heap Pile of Corpses, and the corpses Defiled where the wiki says Restless Necromancers.
The event comes round about every 40 minutes (a 2023 comment, for patch 10.1; wow.gg says the same), and the loot is once a day for each character (hidden quest 64349; wiki and comments). Be at the heap when it is lit: a 2026 commenter finished the event and saw no Fleshwing, and replies of 2025 complain that passers-by kill him in one blow the moment he appears.
How many kills to expect cannot be worked out from Wowhead's figure, because it counts every looter: taken as it stands, 0.82% is about 120 daily kills. One commenter had the egg on the first kill, and wow.gg's 'about 1%' is no better founded. The time on the spot is an estimate for the event alone and leaves out waiting for it.
Coordinates are Wowhead's guide's for Fleshwing (59.8, 43.4); its tooltip has 59.4-59.8, 42.4-43.8, the wiki 59.9, 43.8, and a comment puts Cadaverous at 59, 43. Korthia is marked as having no flying, like the other Korthia mounts in this guide.
The mount is normally usable only by Necrolord characters; Renown 80 with the Necrolords on some character makes it usable by the whole warband (wiki). wow.gg says the Renown needed for the drop is unconfirmed and that players report it at Renown 8. Fleshwing also counts for the achievement Conquering Korthia. Wowhead's guide (updated 2021) is a table of Korthia's rares with a few lines on each, not a walk-through.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
