How to get it

Rare find in the Tormentor's Cache, which a character receives once a week for defeating the boss of Tormentors of Torghast, a public event that starts every two hours somewhere in the Maw. Kill the attackers and their three lieutenants to fill the bar, then the Tormentor that appears. The mount's item is called Chain of Bahmethra.

Chance 1.82% once a week, so about 55 tries on average — Wowhead's item page (read 2026-10-11): 988 mounts in 54,359 opened Tormentor's Caches. The same page lists six of the Tormentors as dropping it directly, 1 to 6 mounts in about 3,000 loots each, which is a far smaller chance and was not added in. One cache per character per week (wiki; Wowhead comments)

Time there about 15 min a visit

Getting there

Tormentors of Torghast, Cocyrus (one of six sites; the map marker shows the current one)
The Maw · 41, 45
/way The Maw 41 45
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

At 1.82% about 55 caches are expected, a year of weeks on one character; the lockout is per character, so more characters shorten it. Players in the comments report anything from the first cache to more than 50 without it.

The event moves between six sites (wiki, map coordinates in the Maw):

  • Calcis 21, 34
  • Cocyrus 41, 45
  • Crucible of the Damned 22, 52
  • Detrithos 28, 48
  • Face of Oblivion 40, 60
  • The Tremaculum 30, 15

The place given is Cocyrus only because it lies nearest Ve'nari's Refuge; go where the map shows the event. It is a different event from Wrath of the Jailer, which also comes every two hours in the Maw and gives no cache (a 2022 comment).

How it runs (wiki): ordinary attackers are worth 0.5% of the bar and each of the three lieutenants about 33%, then one of fifteen Tormentors appears. The win also gives 75 Soul Ash and 100 reputation with Death's Advance, and the cache always holds a Warped Phantasma. The 15 minutes on the spot are an estimate for one event from start to boss; the wait for the next start can be up to two hours.

Whether the week's cache has been taken: /run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(63854)) answers true once it has (Wowhead's top comment).

The event was broken from the War Within pre-patch (summer 2024) for about a year, with no boss appearing. Comments of 2025 on the mount's and the cache's pages report it working again since patch 11.2 and the cache given. Neither page has a comment from 2026, so whether it still works in Midnight is not confirmed.

Wowhead files the item as Chain of Bahmethra (the address with the mount's name redirects there). The wiki gives no drop chance; a DBLTAP article's 4% was not confirmed anywhere and is not used.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
