How to get it

Rare find in the War Chest of the Wild Hunt, the reward for finishing the Night Fae Assault on the Crucible of the Damned in the Maw. The item is the Legsplitter War Harness. Covenant assaults change twice a week and the four covenants take turns, so the Night Fae one is up for half a week once every two weeks. A character of any covenant can do it and gets one chest per assault.

Chance 4.06% once a week, so about 25 tries on average — Wowhead: 1,349 harnesses in 33,256 recorded openings of the War Chest of the Wild Hunt. The lockout is one chest per character per Night Fae assault, which comes round every two weeks, not weekly; 'weekly' is the closest value this field allows

Guides Wowhead: Covenant Assaults Guide - Maw Invasions · Warcraft Wiki: Night Fae Assault (the assault step by step)

Before you go

  • The first three chapters of the Chains of Domination campaign (Battle of Ardenweald, Maw Walkers, Focusing the Eye), ending with Good News, Everyone! handed in to Bolvar in Korthia; that opens the covenant assaults. A level 60 or higher alt can instead take Bolvar's skip to Korthia in Oribos, which completes all three · about 3 h
  • The Night Fae assault being the one that is up: a new assault starts twice a week (US realms Tuesday 8 am and Friday 8 pm Pacific, EU realms Wednesday 8 am and Saturday 8 pm CET) and the four covenants take turns, so it comes round once every two weeks and stays for three and a half days. The Shadowlands map shows which assault is up and how long it has left · 2 weeks

In all: about 3 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, starting from nothing.

  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.8 min of travel

  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Not restricted to the Night Fae: Wowhead's guide says 'You do NOT need to be part of that specific Covenant', a 2021 comment rated +41 got it on a character of another covenant, and one of 2026 got it as a Necrolord.

About 25 chests are expected, which on one character is close to a year of fortnightly assaults; each character gets its own chest, so more characters mean more chests per assault. Players on Wowhead's item page report anything from the first chest to 141 assaults; comments of 2025 and 2026 confirm it still drops.

Getting there: jump into the Maw from Oribos; to the right of the landing point Night Fae riders offer a lift to the staging area, and a Night Fae character also has a mushroom to it from the Heart of the Forest while the assault runs (Wowhead's guide, wiki). The camp's coordinates are the wiki's.

The assault itself (wiki):

  • four quests at the camp (four of ten possible ones are offered each time)
  • a stealth passage with Lady Moonberry
  • the rescue of four captives
  • the death of Darkmist Ascendant Relyana

The chest comes with the final quest, Night Fae Assault (quest 63823 on Wowhead's contained-in row). The 25 minutes are the top of wow.gg's '15-25 minutes'; a Wowhead comment calls the assault mounts among the most time-consuming of Shadowlands. The chest can also hold the Invasive Buzzer pet.

wow.gg has a guide for this mount (updated 2026) that gives the same 4% from Wowhead's count and the same schedule, but it misnames the mount and the chest in places and has the assault quest picked up from Bolvar in Korthia, so it is not linked; what Bolvar gives is the breadcrumb A Unified Effort.

Not established: whether a level 90 character still has to have the covenant campaign's Torghast chapter done before Bolvar offers the skip.

Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
