How to get it

Given to a Necrolord character on reaching Renown 45 with the covenant: the Maldraxxian Corpsefly Harness is put in the bags, wherever the Renown was earned. No vendor sells it.

Guide Wowhead: How To Catch Up on Renown in Shadowlands 9.1.5

Before you go

  • Necrolord Renown 45. Renown comes a level at a time from the covenant campaign, the two weekly quests (1,000 anima for the sanctum in Replenish the Reservoir, Shaping Fate in Korthia), covenant callings, dungeon and raid bosses, the weekly world boss, Torghast and PvP, up to the cap of 80. An account with a character that has reached Renown 80 can buy the Broker Mark of Distinction from Au'Dara in Oribos for 500 gold, which sets the current covenant's Renown to 60 · about 7 h over 3 days

In all: about 7 h of play, spread over 3 days, starting from nothing.

There is nowhere to travel for this one.

Notes and sources

The mount arrives with Renown 45 with the Necrolords, wherever that level is earned, so no place is given. The journal's 'Covenant: Necrolord, Zone: Maldraxxus' names no source.

The sources on Renown 45:

  • the wiki's item page calls the harness 'a reward for reaching 45 Renown with the Necrolord Covenant', and its renown table says of Necrolord Renown 45 'You will be granted this mount'
  • the top Wowhead comment (2021) says the same and that it 'will land directly in your bag'
  • Wowhead's item page (2026) has no sold-by list

Comments of 2021 tell of the harness turning up with a world boss, a Torghast boss, a raid boss or a Maw assault, which a reply puts down to that activity paying the Renown level that reached 45. Whether the Broker Mark of Distinction (straight to Renown 60) hands the mount over at once was not established: the wiki does not say what happens to the rewards of the levels skipped.

A character belongs to one covenant at a time. The mount is normally usable only by Necrolords; Renown 80 with the Necrolords makes it usable by every character of the Warband (wiki). The item binds when picked up and asks for level 10 (wiki). Added in patch 9.1.0.

The wiki's account of how fast Renown comes (two or three levels a week once caught up) dates from patch 9.1, and how quickly it comes today was not measured; the figure here is taken from the Night Fae twin of this mount, the Ardenweald Wilderling. The linked guide (2022) warns that no source of catch-up Renown is fully reliable and names the weekly world boss as the most consistent. Wowhead has no Necrolord renown rewards guide at the address its Night Fae one would suggest.

wow.gg's page for this mount is not linked: it names a 'Cypher of Relocation' as the Renown boost and Return Lost Souls as a weekly source, which the wiki says ended with patch 9.1.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
