How to get it

Drops, as Fallen Charger's Reins, from the Fallen Charger, a rare elite that appears in the west of the Maw with a zone-wide whinny and gallops for Korthia, where it fades away a few minutes later if nobody has stopped it. It is caught on the way: it stops once it is attacked, and its place shows as a star on the map.

Chance 10.64% once a day, so about 9 tries on average — Wowhead: 919 in 8,635 recorded loots of the Fallen Charger (read 2026-10-11), per looting player. wow.gg gives about 5 to 10%. The chance was tripled by the hotfix of 15 July 2021 that brought the daily lockout (wiki)

Guide wow.gg: Fallen Charger's Reins

Before you go

  • Korthia opened: the opening chapters of the Chains of Domination campaign, or the skip to Korthia that a later character is offered in Oribos. With it the character can ride in the Maw, which matters because the charger outruns a ground mount, and stands in the Beastwarrens without being frightened · about 1.5 h

In all: about 1.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Beastwarrens crossing, in sight of both bridges the Fallen Charger can take to Korthia
The Maw · 45.9, 61.9
/way The Maw 45.9 61.9
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.4 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.4 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

One loot a day for each character (wiki, hotfix of 15 July 2021); about 9 kills are expected at 10.64%, and commenters report the first, the 10th and the 11th. The wait is the cost, and when it spawns is where the sources differ:

  • the wiki: every one to six hours
  • wow.gg (updated 2026): 1 to 14 hours after a kill, 6 to 8 on average, and about an hour after it fades away unkilled
  • a player who camped for three days in 2026 logged gaps of 3 hours 40 minutes to 14 and a half hours

Wowhead comments from 2024 to 2026 describe a surer way. The Maw and Korthia shut down after about 15 minutes with nobody in them, and the charger spawns exactly one hour after a player wakes the zone, so on an empty shard (a quiet realm, an off hour) it comes an hour after arriving. Replies of 2025 and 2026 confirm it; a 2025 comment waited three hours in vain. The 65 minutes on the spot are that hour and the kill, and are an estimate.

Where to stand also differs. The place given is the commenters' single point for every spawn, /way 45.87 61.89 in the Beastwarrens, which the charger reaches 30 seconds to 3 minutes after the whinny on its way to one of the two bridges; one 2025 reply saw it fade away without passing. The wiki advises camping the spawn point, which follows the covenant assault that is up:

  • the Venthyr one: the Tremaculum (28.3, 15.5)
  • the Night Fae one: the upper Crucible of the Damned (17.7, 49.5)
  • the Necrolord one: the bridge to the Altar of Domination (28.1, 64.7)
  • the Kyrian one: unknown

wow.gg suggests the bridge between Ve'nari's Refuge and the Tremaculum. The spawn does not always follow the wiki's rule: the 2026 camper saw it start from the Tremaculum and from the Crucible in turn, mostly under a Kyrian assault, and a 2025 comment met it on the Venthyr route during a Necrolord assault. wow.gg says it only appears while a covenant assault is up; the wiki and the comments do not say so.

The emotes: 'An earsplitting whinny echoes across the Maw as the Fallen Charger begins its ride' and, when it reaches Korthia or is killed, 'Fallen Charger releases a final mournful whinny as it fades away'.

The second requirement listed is a comfort and not a lock, as its explanation says. The Beastwarrens' fear is otherwise lifted by Ve'nari's quest Rule 6 (see the Mawsworn Soulhunter). Wowhead's Korthia rares guide (2021) gives the charger one line and is not linked; its Korthia and the Maw Comprehensive Guide (updated 2025) is listed on the item's page and was not opened. A ground mount. Flying is not possible in the Maw.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
