Rare drop from Konthrogz the Obliterator in Korthia. He has no place or timer of his own: whenever another rare of Korthia dies there is a chance that a rift opens where it fell, announced across the zone with 'A massive devourer tears an opening into Korthia' and marked with a star on the map. Invading Mites and Invading Scavengers come out of it in waves, and Konthrogz after them. The other rift, 'A powerful Mawsworn opens a portal into Korthia', brings the Towering Exterminator, who does not carry the mount.
Chance 2.37% once a day, so about 42 tries on average — Wowhead: 1,479 mounts in 62,470 recorded loots of Konthrogz the Obliterator (read 2026-10-11; its tooltip for the item says 2.37%)

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
About 42 kills are expected. The loot is once a day for each character (hidden quest 64246; wiki, Wowhead comments of 2021 and 2025), but the rift itself can open again and again: twice within three minutes in one report (2022), and a 2024 comment found no cooldown between two.
The hard part is getting a rift at all, and the hour on the spot is an estimate of the wait. A 2025 commenter saw one every 10 to 20 minutes while camping Reliwik the Defiant, a 2026 one waited an hour or two there, and comments of 2021 to 2023 tell of two to five hours in the zone without one.
Which rare to kill, from the Wowhead comments (the fullest is of 2025, about 40 kills for the mount):
- Reliwik the Defiant: a rift after him is always the devourer one, but he is up only on some days (see the Garnet Razorwing)
- Dominated Protector, Malbog, Consumption, Zelnithop and the four covenant events (Popo, Cadaverous, Escaped Wilderling, Drippy): either rift, about half and half
- Kroke the Tormented: reported to bring only the Mawsworn one (2021, 2023)
Malbog is the one rare that can be called out at will, about every five minutes, by walking Kah-Bear's track (a 2021 comment; the Crimson Shardhide's notes describe it), which is why the place given above is his spot.
The rift opens where the rare died. The wiki lists five places:
- Sanctuary of Guidance, by the Dominated Protector: 53.0, 22.3
- Mauler's Outlook, by Malbog: 44.6, 29.0
- central Korthia, by the Wild Worldcracker: 47.1, 36.1
- the Vault of Secrets, by Reliwik: 56.3, 66.1
- the back of Gromit Hollow, by Zelnithop: 28.3, 60.2
Wowhead's tooltip for Konthrogz also has points by Consumption (51.4-51.8, 41.2-41.6), at 58.8-59.0, 51.4-51.8 and at 44.6, 43.0.
Left alone he walks toward Keeper's Respite, and at the Vault of Secrets the Korthian Protectors destroy him (wiki), so a rift on the far side of the zone can be over before a character gets there; the Vault needs the Flayedwing Transporter (see the Garnet Razorwing). His health grows with the number of attackers (a 2021 Wowhead comment; the wiki says it scales to a raid boss's).
Not settled: a 2025 reply asks whether a rift can only follow a character's first kill of each rare that day and has no answer; the 2026 comment says a rift still came after the rares had been killed once that day.
The coordinates given are from Wowhead's tooltip for Konthrogz (44.4-44.6, 29.4-29.6); Wowhead's guide has Malbog at 45.5, 30.3. There is no flying in Korthia. The guide linked (updated 2021) is a table of Korthia's rares with a few lines on each; for Konthrogz it says only that he has a chance to come after any other rare dies and follows several waves at the portal. The detail above is from the comments on his Wowhead page. He also counts for the achievement Conquering Korthia (wiki).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
