Craft it at the mount Synthesis Forge in Zereth Mortis from Schematic: Curious Crystalsniffer, 400 Genesis Motes, a Vombata Lattice and a Crystallized Echo of the First Song. The schematic lies inside the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid, in the rooms where Halondrus the Reclaimer is fought: it appears only once he is dead, by one of the pillar structures in the room of the fight's second phase, and has to be picked up before the raid is reset. The lattice drops from the zone's vombata; the Echo is a crystal picked up by the waterfalls near the Sepulcher's entrance.

- The schematic, from inside the Sepulcher of the First Ones (entrance at 81.0, 53.3 in Zereth Mortis): kill Halondrus the Reclaimer, then go back to the room where the second phase of the fight took place and loot the Protoform Schematic by one of the pillar structures, at about 63.2, 51.9 on the raid's map. Do it in the same visit: once the raid is reset the walls between his rooms are up again and it cannot be reached in that lockout. Notes and sources
The journal says only 'Protoform Synthesis'. The recipe is 400 Genesis Motes, 1 Crystallized Echo of the First Song and 1 Vombata Lattice (wiki, Wowhead's guide).
Where the schematic is, in the words of Wowhead's guide (last modified 2025): in the Halondrus boss encounter area, 'by one of the pillar structures in the room where the second phase of the boss encounter happens'. It 'doesn't spawn until Halondrus is defeated', and once the raid is reset in any way the walls that separate his rooms are raised again, 'rendering this pattern impossible to reach for that lockout'.
The 7 comments on the schematic's page:
- /way 63.18 51.92 in the second room, and several players can loot it (2022, +32)
- it can be looted on Raid Finder, and both The Final Song and A New Architect must be finished to see it (2022, +77)
- a first report of a 10 to 15 minute timer after the kill was followed by one of looting it an hour later (2022)
- going back into a cleared raid does not work, because the walls come back on a soft reset (2023)
Whether it still appears: a 2025 comment (+8) could not get it to show on Raid Finder or Mythic with the forge unlocked; 2025 replies say 'was there for me fine' and 'I wasn't able to find this item on any difficulty', and a 2026 one 'after boss on mythic, it was there'. So it is there in Midnight for at least some players, and why others miss it is not established; it was not checked in the game.
wow.gg's guide for this mount (updated 2026) gives the same coordinates and the same warning about resets, but names the boss as Dausegne, 'the second boss', calls the lattice a Wombat Matrix and puts the forge in Pridefall Hamlet. Wowhead's guide and every comment say Halondrus, and wow.gg's guide is not linked (the Darkened Vombata's notes found the same kind of mistakes in its sister guide).
The raid visit is weekly per difficulty like any raid lockout; whether the schematic can be tried again on another difficulty in the same week was not found. The raid is not given as the instance because the mount is made at the forge; the raid visit is one of the requirements, as for the Darkened Vombata.
The Vombata Lattice is shared with the Adorned Vombata and the Darkened Vombata, the Crystallized Echo with Serenade and the Heartbond Lupine. The Echo is Unique (3), binds to the Warband and can also come from an Olea Cache (the Heartbond Lupine's notes, from the wiki). Serenade's notes have it from Wowhead's guide that reagents only mounts use start to appear once the Sopranian research and the forge quests are done.
The mount shares its research gate of about 10 days and the forge unlock with the other Protoform Synthesis mounts. The forge's spot is the one used for this guide's other forge mounts. A ground mount; the item binds when picked up and asks for level 10 (wiki).
