How to get it

Craft it at the mount forge of Protoform Synthesis in Zereth Mortis from Schematic: Tarachnid Creeper, 450 Genesis Motes, a Tarachnid Lattice and a Revelation Key. The schematic lies in a small vault in the Arrangement Index whose door stands behind boulders until a campaign quest clears them. The key is the part left to luck: it drops, about one kill in nine by Wowhead's count, from the Protector of the First Ones, a rare in a barred cave at Zovaal's Grasp, and only on the day's first kill.

Chance 10.99% once a day, so about 9 tries on average — The chance here is that of one kill of the Protector of the First Ones giving a Revelation Key; the craft itself is certain. Wowhead's tooltip for the key: 10.99%, which is 1,912 keys in 17,396 recorded loots of the rare (read 2026-10-11). The count pools kills that could not give a key (characters without the mount forge, second kills of a day), so the chance on an eligible first kill of the day is likely higher. Wowhead's guide puts the rare reagents at 'around 10%'

  • Cypher research timers: Aealic 18 h, Dealic 3 d 18 h, Sopranian 5 d 18 h, one after another · 10.25 days
  • Zereth Mortis campaign to chapter 3, which opens the Cypher Console, and 470 Cyphers of the First Ones · about 5 h
  • The quests that open the mount forge once Sopranian Understanding is researched: Finding Tahli and the chain after it (The Final Song), then after a daily reset The Lost Component and A New Architect. The forge is the Servitor Interface in the Protoform Repository (70.2, 28.6). Until this is done the Revelation Key does not drop for the character · about 1.5 h over 2 days
  • Zereth Mortis campaign on to the quest Aggressive Excavation (from Taelia Fordragon, 57.2, 31.1), partway through chapter 5: its Blocked Door is the boulder-covered door of the vault that holds the schematic, and destroying it lets the character in · about 2.5 h
  • The schematic: in the small building at 62.8, 22.0 in the Arrangement Index, on the floor to the right of the entrance. It starts Schematic Reassimilation: Tarachnid Creeper, handed in at the forge · about 0.25 h
  • A Revelation Key from the Protector of the First Ones, one try a day. His cave is shut by a barrier that two players are meant to open together, each bringing the Mysterious Sigil that matches the symbol on one of the two Barrier Control Consoles (four sigils lie on the ground nearby, around 40.5-43.0, 23.9-26.8). One player gets in by dying just outside and walking through the barrier as a ghost, by waiting inside the cave for him to appear, or, on a day when both consoles show the same symbol, by moving quickly from one console to the other; the barrier drops when he dies · about 0.25 h
  • 450 Genesis Motes (most creatures in Zereth Mortis) and a Tarachnid Lattice, a low-chance drop from the zone's spider creatures, likelier from rare ones such as Mother Phestis (54.0, 34.6) · about 2 h

In all: about 11.5 h of play, spread over 10.25 days, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The journal says only 'Protoform Synthesis'. The place, drop and lockout given here are for the daily try for the Revelation Key, the one part of the craft left to luck; everything else is done once. At 10.99% a day it is about nine daily kills on average; players report anything from the first kill (2024, 2026) to two months of daily kills (2022).

The recipe is 450 Genesis Motes, 1 Revelation Key and 1 Tarachnid Lattice (wiki, Wowhead's guide, and the best-rated comment on the key's page).

The key: Wowhead lists the Protector of the First Ones as its only creature source and the Olea Cache as a container (107 keys in 22,954 caches, 0.47%). It binds to the Warband and is Unique (2), and the only other mount that uses it is the Scarlet Helicid. Because of the Unique (2), a character or bank that already holds two gets no more (comments of 2022 and 2024). Since the key is Warband-bound, a second character with the forge open doubles the daily tries.

The best-rated comment on the key (2022) says he can be killed any number of times a day but only the first kill can give the key, and that the key does not drop before the character has finished The Final Song; replies of 2022 and 2024 bear out the daily limit after dozens of fruitless repeat kills. wow.gg (2026) calls the key a guaranteed drop and the lockout weekly; Wowhead's count and comments contradict both, and wow.gg is not linked.

The barrier: 2022 comments say it 'requires 2 players', but ways in for one player are reported again and again:

  • the ghost walk (2023, the best-rated comment on the rare; 2024; replies of 2026)
  • waiting inside before he appears (2023, a 2025 reply; a tank of 2022 was shut in with him and let out when he died)
  • the same symbol on both consoles (2022, 2023, 2025; a 2025 reply says the symbols hold for the whole day)
  • a blink or Soulshape through the wall at 39.53, 27.11 (2024, 2025, a 2026 reply)
  • breaking the connection while flying in (2023)

Because one player can get in, no number of players is set. He comes back 20 to 60 minutes after a kill (a 2023 comment with fifteen logged times; a 2025 reply says 30 to 60).

The schematic's door: Wowhead's guide does not mention the boulders, but the wiki's quest page puts the Blocked Door of Aggressive Excavation at the schematic's spot, and wow.gg says the entrance stays blocked until that quest is done. Excerpts of the comments on Wowhead's page for the schematic, seen only through a web search (undated; the page itself was not read), have one player walking through the top of the door as a ghost, with a teleport pad to the right of the door for the way out, and others not seeing the schematic until they changed realm or restarted the game. wow.gg places the building in the 'Sterling Sands' in the south-west, which no other source does.

A 2024 comment on Wowhead's guide reports a character barred from crafting this very mount with the message that it had been crafted already, unresolved by support at the time.

The Tarachnid Lattice is not bound and can be sold on the auction house, a mention only (as for the Genesis Crawler). The forge's spot is the Servitor Interface, as for this guide's other Protoform mounts; Wowhead's guide gives 68.5, 30.1 for the Protoform Repository. The coordinates given are those of a comment's waypoint for the rare (38.88, 27.63); Wowhead's map pins are 39.0, 27.4-27.6 and the wiki has 39, 27.6. The mount shares its research gate of about 10 days and the forge unlock with the other Protoform Synthesis mounts. Wowhead's guide was last updated in 2025.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
