How to get it

Rare drop, as the item Sturdy Silver Mawrat Harness, from the boss on the last floor of any wing of Torghast, Tower of the Damned, on Layer 13 or higher. A run can be repeated at once, as often as wanted. A Flawless run (five gems, 200 points) on those layers also opens the Adamant Vaults, two extra floors whose boss can drop it too. Torghast is entered through the portal at Ve'nari's Refuge in the Maw.

Chance No figure for a Layer 13+ run was ever published, and Wowhead's counts (item page, read 2026-10-11) cannot give one, because they are pooled over all layers: the 19 wing end bosses together stand at 428 mounts in 283,988 kills (0.15%), which takes in every kill on the layers below 13, where it cannot drop; the three Adamant Vaults bosses (Vault Sentinel 67 in 5,931, Troz'igal the Oppressor 86 in 6,311, Vault Aegis 87 in 6,156) stand at 240 in 18,398 (1.30%), pooled over Layers 9 to 16. Guesses: 'around 1%' (wow.gg, from players' reports); about 0.8 to 1% (Wowhead comment of April 2023, after 36 kills)

Guides Wowhead: Sturdy Silver Mawrat Harness, item page (the comment of April 2023 sets quick runs against Adamant Vaults runs) · wow.gg: Sturdy Silver Mawrat Harness · Icy Veins: Guide to Torghast, Tower of the Damned in Shadowlands (9.2.5)

Before you go

  • Torghast opened on the account: the short introductory quest line that leads to Ve'nari in the Maw (it starts with Into Torghast) · about 2 h
  • Layer 13 opened: Layers 1 to 8 are open from the start, Layers 9 to 12 open with one finished run of Layer 8, and Layer 13 with one of Layer 12, so two runs, in any wing · about 0.75 h

In all: about 2.8 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Portal to Torghast, Ve'nari's Refuge
The Maw · 46.9, 41.7
/way The Maw 46.9 41.7
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Oribos*
  2. Jump into the Maw from the Ring of Transference
  3. Ride the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Players' counts on Wowhead:

  • the first run (several players)
  • 29 runs (2023)
  • 32 (2022)
  • 36 (2023)
  • 75 (2024)
  • about 100 without it (2023)

It still drops in later expansions: comments of 2024 and 2025 report it from Layer 16; none from Midnight was found.

A Flawless run is not needed for the wing boss's drop (2022 replies: one from Skoldus Hall on Layer 13 with four gems; comments of 2022 and 2023 by players who ran past everything but the floor bosses). There is no lockout: Icy Veins says Torghast can be entered as often as wanted, and the comments describe run after run on one character. Whether a higher layer drops it more often is not known; a wow.gg page says the chance is the same on Layers 13 to 16, which is a claim without a source. The mount is personal loot: a group of five saw three drop from one Vaults boss (a 2022 comment).

The Adamant Vaults give a second try in the same run, and by Wowhead's counts the better one. They need:

  • the Adamant Vaults perk from the Box of Many Things ('Achieving a 5-star Flawless Torghast run allows you and your party to ascend to the Adamant Vaults. Layers 9 or above only', wiki; wow.gg puts it in the third row, 250 Tower Knowledge for the row and 100 for the perk, not checked elsewhere)
  • a run of 200 points, which means clearing most of each floor: the comment of 36 runs counts 12 to 15 minutes for such a run against 3 to 4 for a run straight to the bosses

The time on the spot is one quick run, an estimate from comments written at level 70 (2 to 4 minutes; a 2024 one says 2 to 3 in The Upper Reaches).

The wings are The Upper Reaches, The Soulforges, Skoldus Hall, Mort'regar, Coldheart Interstitia and Fracture Chambers, all open at all times since patch 9.2.5 (wiki). Sources disagree on how layers open, as the Colossal Soulshredder Mawrat's notes set out: older text (the wiki's body, Wowhead's scoring guide of 2021) asks for a run of four gems to move up a layer, Icy Veins' guide for 9.2.5 only for a finished run; this guide follows Icy Veins as the later source. Whether layers opened by another character of the account count was not established.

Torghast is neither a raid nor a dungeon, so no instance is named. The place given above is the one this guide's other Torghast mounts use, Ve'nari's spot by the portal (Icy Veins: the entrance is at the far back of Ve'nari's Refuge), and there is no flying in the Maw. The item binds when picked up (Wowhead tooltip). The journal files the mount under Achievement, but its own text and every source say drop.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
