How to get it

Reward of the quest Worst of the Worst, handed in to Ebyssian in Zaralek Cavern: the last quest of Inherited Sin, the fourth chapter of the Embers of Neltharion campaign. Handing it in completes the achievement A Serpentine Discovery, which is what the journal names.

Guide Warcraft Wiki: Embers of Neltharion campaign (every quest, chapter by chapter)

Before you go

  • The first three chapters of the Embers of Neltharion campaign: Breaking Ground (15 quests, ends with Six Hundred Feet Under), Sundered Legacy (10) and The Ancient Bargain (16, ends with In the Wake of the Ashes) · about 2.5 h
  • Inherited Sin, ten quests: Here We Go Again (Ebyssian in Valdrakken, 61.9, 41.2, who sends the character down to the cavern), The Obsidian Rest, Report: Battlefield Ruins, then Blow It Up, Thinning Their Defenses and Intercepting Communications together, Air Superiority, Investigating the Unknown, and last Break Them Out with Worst of the Worst (kill Overseer Xymra at 57.0, 30.3, at the back of the Slitherdrake Roost) · about 0.75 h

In all: about 3.3 h of play, starting from nothing.

  3. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.8 min of travel

  2. Enter Zaralek Cavern through the tunnels
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The journal lists the source as the achievement A Serpentine Discovery ('Unlock the Winding Slitherdrake'), which is account-wide. The wiki's page for Worst of the Worst (Zaralek Cavern) lists the Winding Slitherdrake among that quest's rewards, so the mount and the achievement arrive together.

The wiki's quest pages put In the Wake of the Ashes, the last quest of The Ancient Bargain, directly before Here We Go Again, which is why all of the first three chapters are counted; whether Sundered Legacy can be left out was not established. Guides written when the patch came out (2023) also name A Creche Divided, the Forbidden Reach chapter, as coming before; the wiki's campaign page does not list it among this campaign's chapters, and whether the game still asks for it was not established. The chapters opened week by week in May 2023, and nothing suggests a time gate today.

The place given above is where the chapter's last quest is handed in, and the time on the spot is only that hand-in: the chapter itself, which plays out around the Obsidian Rest, is counted among the requirements. No step-by-step guide of Wowhead's own for this chapter was found, only a story-spoiler news post, so the wiki's quest list is linked instead.

The mount has two items in the game's data (204361 and 211486); Wowhead's tooltips for both name the same source, the achievement, and both bind when picked up. Zaralek Cavern has its own map (2454), as for this guide's other mounts in the cavern. Not checked in the game.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
