Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Sold by Winaestra for 10 gold. Since Midnight she stands in Silvermoon City, west of the Royal Exchange flight point, and sells the classic hawkstriders there. A blood elf buys it outright; any other Horde race has to be Exalted with Silvermoon City first.
Time there about 1 min a visit
Before you go
- Exalted with Silvermoon City, unless the buyer is a blood elf: the Silvermoon City Tabard from the quartermaster Magistrix Nizara, worn in dungeons, turns their reputation into Silvermoon City's; quests in the old Eversong Woods and Ghostlands and the Argent Tournament also count · about 3.5 h
- 10 gold
In all: about 3.5 h of play, 10 gold, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Silvermoon City 67.2 66 - Take the portal from Orgrimmar to Silvermoon*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Horde characters only. The journal and the item's tooltip still name only the old place, Eversong Woods (Burning Crusade).
Wowhead's sold-by list for the item (as read in 2026) has two Winaestras: the Midnight one in Silvermoon City (creature 254366, titled Stable Master, 10 gold), which is the place given here, and the old Hawkstrider Breeder in the Eversong Woods of the Burning Crusade (creature 16264; the wiki puts her at Thuron's Livery, 61.0, 54.6), listed there at 9 gold, presumably a price seen with a reputation discount.
Wowhead's tooltip puts the new one at 67.2, 66.0; the wiki has her in the Royal Exchange and lists the Swift Purple Hawkstrider at 10 gold among what she sells in Midnight. That she stands west of the Royal Exchange flight point is from a 2026 Wowhead comment quoted in the Black Hawkstrider's notes, not read again. The old Eversong Woods is reached through Zidormi; the notes for the Red and Black Hawkstriders give the place.
The reputation rule is the wiki's (blood elves by default, anyone else at Exalted), and a 2018 Wowhead comment on this item says the same of the old vendor. Nothing read says whether the Midnight vendor asks the same, Wowhead's sold-by list carries no standing for her, and it was not confirmed in the game. The reputation time is zero on a blood elf and on a character that is already Exalted.
The wiki's faction page gives these ways to the reputation, but does not say where a Horde character of another race starts:
- the tabard, sold by Magistrix Nizara, next to the flight master in Eversong Woods
- quests in Eversong Woods, Ghostlands, Blasted Lands and Hellfire Peninsula
- the Argent Tournament
- Silvermoon Writs of Commendation from the Molten Front
Wowhead's tooltip for the item asks for Apprentice Riding and lists every Horde race, the Earthen, Haranir and Dracthyr included. No guide is linked: Wowhead's racial mount guide (updated 2024) only lists the mount under Winaestra and predates her move.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
