Sold as Slumbering Worldsnail Shell by Dealer Vexil, a Worldbreaker dragonspawn in a cave at the Smoldering Perch in The Waking Shores, for 1,000 Magmotes. Magmotes drop from the hostile creatures in and around the Obsidian Citadel, but only while the character carries the Worldbreaker Membership buff, and Vexil trades only once the side quest The Shadow of His Wings is done.
Time there about 2 min a visit
Before you go
- The side quests of the Smoldering Perch: Punching Up, A Cultist's Misgivings and Under Lock and Key, then The Shadow of His Wings (begun with Ingot at 39.4, 48.3; handed in to Ayasanth at 37.3, 46.6) · about 0.5 h
- A Worldbreaker Membership, used for its buff (48 hours of play, lost on death). The first comes by chance from the Twilight Cache that Igys the Believer in the Slagmire (32.3, 52.5) gives for a Restored Obsidian Key through the repeatable quest Unlocking Our Past; a key is 30 Key Fragments and 3 Key Framing from the creatures of the citadel, and each week Igys takes keys only after the week's key quest for Wrathion or Sabellian is done. Further ones cost 20 Magmotes at Vexil; the weekly quest Same as the Old Boss, given next to Igys, pays 25 · about 1 h
- 1,000 Magmotes, looted from the creatures in and around the Obsidian Citadel while the buff is up; the Vault under the citadel is the spot players name. Dying ends the buff, and Magmotes stop dropping until another membership is used · about 2 h
In all: about 3.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The journal names the vendor and shows the cost only as 1,000; it is Magmotes, an item that binds to the Warband (wiki), not a currency. Wowhead's page for the item lists Dealer Vexil (creature 193310) alone, at 1,000 Magmotes. Coordinates for Vexil: the wiki 34.7, 46.7; Method 34.74, 46.73, with the cave mouth at 35.75, 47.96; the top comment 34.8, 46.6.
Sources disagree on when Vexil trades:
- the wiki's page for him (edited 2025): "After completing The Shadow of His Wings, or while under the Worldbreaker Membership, Vexil turns neutral and sells a few items"
- Method's guide (2022): the buff must be active to deal with him
- the top Wowhead comment (2022): the quest is what gives access to Igys, the membership what lets one talk to Vexil
Safest is to have both when going to buy. Whether The Shadow of His Wings needs anything before its three lead-in quests is not established; the wiki files it under the side stories of Sojourner of the Waking Shores.
The buff lasts "for 48 hours of in-game time, or until death, whichever comes first" (wiki). The membership is a unique item, so a second one cannot be held, and a 2026 commenter who got none from many caches found one lying in the bank. Commenters advise buying a spare from Vexil for 20 Magmotes as soon as the first 25 are in hand, and not spending keys on caches for the Magmotes themselves: a Twilight Cache holds only 3 to 6 (wiki).
Where Magmotes drop best: the top comments name the Vault under the citadel, one of them its right wing; a 2026 comment still speaks of farming in the Vault. A 2022 reply points to a hotfix that cut the citadel's respawn rate in December 2022; a 2025 report is the only recent one, so the two hours are loose.
Wowhead comments of 2022 speak of groups listed as "Obsidian Key Farm"; none of the sources says a group is required for anything here. The same kills give the Key Fragments and Key Framing for keys.
Nothing was found from after Midnight's launch on whether any of this changed, beyond the 2026 comments. The Magmashell, a look-alike, is a separate mount. The item binds when picked up.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
