Ravenous Black Gryphon

Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Sold by Warden Krizzik, the Warlands vendor among the Time Rift vendors at the Tyrhold Reservoir in Thaldraszus, for 3,000 Paracausal Flakes, but only to an Alliance character: a Horde character is shown the White War Wolf in its place. Once an Alliance character has learned it, the Horde characters of the account can ride it too. The flakes come from Time Rifts, the event that starts there at the top of every hour; the same mount can also drop from the boss at the end of a rift.
Time there about 2 min a visit
Before you go
- 3,000 Paracausal Flakes: 1,000 from the weekly quest When Time Needs Mending (complete one Time Rift), and from each rift 30 for every task, 150 for the boss and the three reward boxes (20, 40 and 80). A rift starts every hour: ten minutes of tasks, then the portal and the boss · about 2 h over 1 days
In all: about 2 h of play, spread over 1 days, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Thaldraszus 51 56.6 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Valdrakken*
- Fly the rest of the way
The place differs by faction and has not been looked up for the Horde.
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The journal's lines read as two routes: for the Alliance the drop and the vendor, for the Horde the item Gift of the Ravenous Black Gryphon. The item sold is the Reins of the Ravenous Black Gryphon, which binds to the Warband and lists the Alliance's races. Wowhead's sold-by list has Warden Krizzik (NPC 208346, friendly to both factions) at 3,000 of currency 2594, Paracausal Flakes; Wowhead's guide says she sells different wares to each faction and lists the reins under 'Warlands Items for Alliance Characters'. No Horde place is given because a Horde character cannot buy it.
What a Horde player can do, by the comments on Wowhead's page for the reins:
- have an Alliance character of the same account buy it, after which it works on every Horde character (2025; a 2024 comment says the same of a gifted one)
- get it as a drop from a rift boss
- be given it by an Alliance player holding the Gift (item 207083), a rift drop for Alliance characters that teaches the mount to a targeted player of the other faction; this is how most Horde commenters came by it (2023 to 2025)
The wiki's pages for the mount and for the Gift say the same of the gift: an Alliance player's item that teaches the mount to a Horde character. Learning the gryphon does not give the White War Wolf (2023); that one is bought the same way by a Horde character.
The drop's chance was never published: the guide says each vendor's wares can drop from the boss of that vendor's timeline, a 2023 comment says the reins drop from any rift's last boss, and players name King Varian (2023) and the Mechagon boss of A.Z.E.R.O.T.H. (2023). The Encapsulated Destiny from the weekly quest guarantees some extra reward from the next rift boss, not this mount in particular.
Flakes can be moved to the Alliance character: a 2025 player sent 3,000 by the Warband transfer in the currency pane, and a 2023 one mailed six Paracausal crates (item 208945, bought from NPC 208548). On the level needed the reports differ: the 2023 player bought on a level 56 Alliance character, the 2025 one had to bring an Alliance evoker to level 70 before the vendor could be seen, and the White War Wolf's notes have more of the same.
A rift lasts 15 minutes (guide): ten of tasks and five in which the portal stays open. Soridormi stands at 51.1, 57.1 (wiki). No source says outright that the vendors stand there between rifts; the guide says the reservoir is where Soridormi and the vendors are located. The coordinates are Wowhead's tooltip for Warden Krizzik (51.0, 56.6), as for the White War Wolf. Wowhead's guide was last updated in 2023.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
