How to get it

Reward of the quest Emerald Welcome, the second quest of the Emerald Dream's campaign (Guardians of the Dream). Merithra gives Call of the Dream and then Emerald Welcome at the Ancient Bough in Ohn'ahran Plains (18.7, 51.8). Emerald Welcome leads through the portal beside her into the Emerald Dream and is handed in to Merithra on the other side (69.4, 54.1), after a cinematic; she hands over the mount.

Time there about 10 min a visit

Guide Method: Flourishing Whimsydrake Mount Guide

Before you go

  • The Coalition of Flames storyline from Shandris Feathermoon in Valdrakken (50.3, 52.8), the story of patch 10.1.7: Fire Season, Dousing the Wards and Eyes of Fire, Through the Flames, Inflammatory Information and Raise the Alarm. Call of the Dream asks for it of a character that has not done it; the wiki says alts are given Shandris's Scouting Report in its place · about 0.75 h
  • Call of the Dream and Emerald Welcome, both from Merithra at the Ancient Bough: talk to her, go through the portal, meet her on the other side and watch the cinematic · about 0.2 h

In all: about 1 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Merithra, Ancient Bough
Ohn'ahran Plains · 18.7, 51.8
/way Ohn'ahran Plains 18.7 51.8
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.4 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Stormwind to Bel'ameth*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Azsuna*
  2. Take the portal from Val'sharah to Bel'ameth*
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The place given is where the trip begins, not where the mount is handed over: both quests are taken from Merithra at the Ancient Bough in Ohn'ahran Plains (wiki: 18.7, 51.8; Method: 18.6, 51.8), and Emerald Welcome carries the player through the portal to Merithra in the Emerald Dream at 69.4, 54.1 (wiki; Method 69.4, 54.0), a few steps on, where it is handed in. A character that has never been in the Dream has to start at the Bough, so going to the Emerald Dream's map first would be a wasted trip. The journal's 'Zone: Emerald Dream' is where the quest ends.

The two sources differ on a detail: the wiki has Emerald Welcome start at the Bough and end in the Dream, Method has Call of the Dream handed in after the portal and Emerald Welcome picked up in the Dream; either way it is one walk from the Bough.

What has to be done first: the wiki's page for Call of the Dream (edited 2025) says the quest was pushed to players automatically with patch 10.2.0 and that its objective for a character without the earlier story is to complete the Coalition of Flames storyline from Shandris in Valdrakken, with Shandris's Scouting Report provided for alts. It gives that storyline as running from A Sentinel's Summon to Raise the Alarm, while the wiki's page for A Sentinel's Summon says that breadcrumb was removed in patch 10.2.0 and needed level 70.

What a fresh character is asked for in Midnight, and at what level (the wiki lists both dream quests as level 10-80), was not checked against anything newer than Method's 2025 guide; medium confidence for that reason. Wowhead's page for the item lists one source, the quest Emerald Welcome (quest 76318, asking for level 10); its nine comments say nothing about what has to be done first, so the question stays open.

The item binds when picked up and was added in patch 10.2.0 (wiki). Method files the mount under dragonriding; the wiki's page calls it a flying mount and says a passenger riding along appears as a faerie dragon. A 2023 commenter on Wowhead notes the drake is customizable.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
