How to get it

Sold at Exalted with the Netherwing by Drake Dealer Hurlunk at Dragonmaw Base Camp on Netherwing Ledge, for 200 gold. One of the six Netherwing drakes is free instead: reaching Exalted opens the quests Bow to the Highlord and Lord Illidan Stormrage, which end in Shattrath's Lower City, where six drakes wait beside Barthamus and Onyxien's quest, Onyxien the Onyx Netherwing Drake, hands over this one. Only one of the six quests can be taken, once, so every drake after the first is bought from Hurlunk.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Hurlunk is the place given above because he serves every case. The journal and Wowhead's tooltip name only the quest in Shattrath, which gives a character one drake of the six, once (its text: only one may be selected and the choice cannot be changed). Hurlunk sells all six to anyone Exalted (wiki); Wowhead's sold-by list prices this one at 200 gold, and a 2020 Wowhead comment describes buying the other five from him at 65.6, 86.0 after the quest.

A character with no Netherwing drake yet can take the Onyx for nothing: Onyxien stands beside Barthamus in Shattrath's Lower City (Wowhead's tooltip 67.4, 18.5; the wiki 65.3, 19.2), quest 11111. The six quest givers:

Whether Hurlunk sells before the Shattrath quest has been done was not confirmed; the wiki gives his only requirement as Exalted. Whether Exalted standing takes anything off the 200 gold was not established either.

Hurlunk's spot is Wowhead's tooltip (65.4-65.6, 85.8-86.0); it also maps him at 70.8, 93.8, and the wiki places him at Dragonmaw Base Camp and on Netherwing Ledge. Netherwing Ledge is reached by air.

Reputation (wiki): Hated to Exalted is 85,000, of which one-time quests give 50,725. Ally of the Netherwing alone is 42,000 and covers Hated to Neutral, so under 9,000 of the 42,000 after Neutral comes from one-time quests and the rest from dailies and eggs. One of the first dailies is open only to miners, herbalists or skinners.

Eggs: a 2015 comment reached Exalted in three days mostly on eggs, 10-15 an hour at a quiet time; a 2021 comment found 1-5 a day and suggests handing them in under the Darkmoon Faire's reputation buff.

The wiki's faction page still asks for 300 riding skill to get past Neutral, which predates the riding changes of patch 9.0. What is asked today was not established, nor whether the standing is shared across the Warband.

Guides: Wowhead's Flying "On Wings of Nether" (a player's guide, last updated 2019) walks the whole chain standing by standing; its level 70 and fast-flight requirements were written before level scaling. Wowhead's A Week in Shattrath (updated 2020) adds that two of the later quests, Kill Them All! and The Deadliest Trap Ever Laid, ask for the Aldor or the Scryers to have been chosen in Shattrath (the quest City of Light).
