Azure Netherwing Drake

Sold at Exalted with the Netherwing by Drake Dealer Hurlunk at Dragonmaw Base Camp on Netherwing Ledge, for 200 gold. One of the six Netherwing drakes is free instead: reaching Exalted opens the quests Bow to the Highlord and Lord Illidan Stormrage, which end in Shattrath's Lower City, where six drakes wait beside Barthamus and Suraku's quest, Suraku the Azure Netherwing Drake, hands over this one. Only one of the six quests can be taken, once, so every drake after the first is bought from Hurlunk.

Guides Wowhead: Flying "On Wings of Nether" · Wowhead: A Week in Shattrath: Farming Outland Mounts and Pets

• The Netherwing introduction: Mordenai's chain in the Netherwing Fields of Shadowmoon Valley, nine quests from Kindness to Ally of the Netherwing, which lifts the standing from Hated to Neutral and opens the dailies on Netherwing Ledge · about 1.5 h
• Exalted with the Netherwing: 42,000 reputation from Neutral, from the quests and dailies on Netherwing Ledge (250 a daily at first, 350 for those that open at Friendly, 500 at Revered) and from Netherwing Eggs found on the ledge and in its mine, 250 each without limit · about 9 h over 2 weeks
• 200 gold, unless this drake is the one taken free through the quest in Shattrath

In all: about 10.5 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, 200 gold, starting from nothing.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Hurlunk is the place given above because he serves every case, as for the other Netherwing drakes. The journal and Wowhead's tooltip name only the quest in Shattrath, which gives a character one drake of the six, once (its text on the wiki: 'you may only select one of us' and 'Once the selection has been made, you cannot change your mind'). Hurlunk sells all six to anyone Exalted for 200 gold each (the wiki's pages for the reins and for the Netherwing). A 2009 comment on Wowhead's quest page: 'you can pick a quest for a free netherdrake of whichever color you like, and buy the other colors for 200g each'.

A character with no Netherwing drake yet can take the Azure for nothing: Suraku (NPC 23461) stands with the other five beside Barthamus in Shattrath's Lower City (Wowhead's tooltip, as read in 2026: 66.2-66.8, 18.0-18.8; the wiki 64.6, 18.6). The quest is 11112, at level 25.

The wiki says the 200 gold is the price at Exalted with no further discount, and that Hurlunk is friendly only to those who have done Blood Oath of the Netherwing. A 2010 reply on Wowhead's quest page speaks of 160 gold at Exalted, which nothing later bears out.

Hurlunk's spot is Wowhead's tooltip for NPC 23489: 65.4-65.6, 85.8-86.0, the same as for the Onyx, Veridian and Violet drakes. The tooltip also carries a third point at 70.8, 93.8, off to the south-east, which no other source mentions and which is not used. The wiki's page for him gives no coordinates. Netherwing Ledge is reached by air.

Reputation (wiki): players start at 0/36,000 Hated, and Hated to Exalted is 85,000, of which one-time quests give 50,725. Ally of the Netherwing alone is 42,000 and brings Neutral. From there the wiki's table has 3,000 to Friendly, 6,000 to Honored, 12,000 to Revered and 21,000 to Exalted, 42,000 in all. With dailies alone:

• Neutral is reached on day 1
• Friendly by day 2
• Honored by day 4
• Revered by day 7
• Exalted by day 14

One of the first dailies is open only to miners, herbalists or skinners, and the Revered daily The Deadliest Trap Ever Laid is written for a group of three (wiki); it is one source of reputation among several, not a step that has to be done.

The wiki still asks for 300 riding skill to get past Neutral, which predates the riding changes of patch 9.0 (the reins themselves ask for level 27 and Apprentice Riding since then); what is asked today was not established.

The newest comments on Wowhead's retail quest page are of 2017 and 2018, both from players who could not get the quest offered (one of them only Revered); nothing dated to Midnight was found for this drake.

Guides: Wowhead's Flying "On Wings of Nether" (a player's guide, last updated 2019) walks the chain standing by standing, and A Week in Shattrath (updated 2020) adds that two of the later quests ask for the Aldor or the Scryers to have been chosen. A 2015 Wowhead comment, noted for the Purple Netherwing Drake, says the Azure is not one of the drakes the achievement Awake the Drakes counts; that was not checked.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
