Sold at Exalted with the Netherwing by Drake Dealer Hurlunk at Dragonmaw Base Camp on Netherwing Ledge, for 200 gold. One of the six Netherwing drakes is free instead: reaching Exalted opens the quests Bow to the Highlord and Lord Illidan Stormrage, which end in Shattrath's Lower City, where six drakes wait beside Barthamus and Voranaku's quest, Voranaku the Violet Netherwing Drake, hands over this one. Only one of the six quests can be taken, once, so every drake after the first is bought from Hurlunk.

Notes and sources
Hurlunk is the place given above because he serves every case, as for the Onyx and Veridian drakes. The journal and Wowhead's tooltip name only the quest in Shattrath, which gives a character one drake of the six, once (its text, on Wowhead's tooltip: only one may be selected and the choice cannot be changed). The wiki's page for these reins says they can also be bought from Hurlunk for 200 gold, Exalted being asked for both.
A character with no Netherwing drake yet can take the Violet for nothing: Voranaku stands with the other five beside Barthamus in Shattrath's Lower City (Wowhead's tooltip 65.4-66.6, 16.8-17.8; the wiki 63.8, 17.5), quest 11113. The six quest givers:
- Jorus (Cobalt)
- Malfas (Purple)
- Onyxien (Onyx)
- Suraku (Azure)
- Voranaku (Violet)
- Zoya (Veridian)
Hurlunk's spot is Wowhead's tooltip (65.4-65.6, 85.8-86.0; it also maps him at 70.8, 93.8). Netherwing Ledge is reached by air.
Reputation (wiki): Hated to Exalted is 85,000, of which one-time quests give 50,725. Ally of the Netherwing alone is 42,000 and covers Hated to Neutral, so under 9,000 of the 42,000 after Neutral comes from one-time quests and the rest from dailies and eggs.
One of the first dailies is open only to miners, herbalists or skinners, and the last daily, The Deadliest Trap Ever Laid, is written for a group of three (wiki); it is one source of reputation among several, not a step that has to be done.
The wiki still asks for 300 riding skill to get past Neutral, and Wowhead's guide (a player's guide, last updated 2019) for level 70 and fast flight, both written before the riding and level changes of patch 9.0; what is asked today was not established.
Two more things are noted for the Onyx and Veridian drakes and were not checked again for this one: that Hurlunk may not give the Exalted discount, and a 2024 Blizzard support thread about human characters being paid 38,182 instead of 42,000 by Ally of the Netherwing, which left them short of Neutral.
Guides: Wowhead's Flying "On Wings of Nether" walks the chain standing by standing, names Voranaku among the six and says the other five colours are then bought from Hurlunk; its comments run to 2024. A Week in Shattrath is the Onyx Netherwing Drake's second guide and was not read for this one.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
