How to get it

Made by an engineer with Outland Engineering. The recipe is taught at skill 1 for 10 copper, but only by the engineering trainers in Outland: Lebowski in Honor Hold or Zebig in Thrallmar are the nearest. Materials: 2 Fel Iron Casing, 20 Handful of Fel Iron Bolts, 20 Elemental Blasting Powder and 8 Star Wood, which comes to 26 Fel Iron Bars, 5 Motes of Fire, 10 Motes of Earth and the wood. Learning and riding the mount both ask for Outland Engineering as well.

Time there about 3 min a visit

Guide Wowhead: Mounts and Companions from Professions

Before you go

  • A character with Engineering as a profession and Outland Engineering learned from one of the Outland trainers; skill 1 is enough for the recipe, for its three engineering parts and for the mount itself. The tools are an Arclight Spanner (engineer-made, 6 Copper Bars) and a Blacksmith Hammer · about 0.5 h
  • 26 Fel Iron Bars (6 for the two casings, 20 for the bolts; smelted from Fel Iron Ore, which is mined across Outland), 5 Motes of Fire and 10 Motes of Earth (five batches of Elemental Blasting Powder, four to a batch) · about 1 h
  • 8 Star Wood, 45 silver each from enchanting supply vendors

In all: about 1.5 h of play, 3.6 gold, starting from nothing.

From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Shattrath*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
Zebig, engineering trainer, Thrallmar
Hellfire Peninsula · 54.8, 38.5
/way Hellfire Peninsula 54.8 38.5
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Shattrath*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Wowhead's taught-by list for the recipe (as read in 2026) has only Outland trainers:

  • Alliance: Lebowski (Honor Hold) and K. Lee Smallfry (Telredor)
  • Horde: Zebig (Thrallmar) and Mack Diver (Zabra'jin)
  • either side: Xyrol in Area 52, and Engineer Sinbei on the Scryer's Tier and Technician Mihila on the Aldor Rise in Shattrath (the wiki says each of the Shattrath two turns away members of the other faction)

A 2018 Wowhead comment confirms that capital-city trainers stopped teaching it with patch 8.0. Wowhead's guide Mounts and Companions from Professions (updated 2022) lists the same materials but says the recipe can be bought from any engineering trainer; the taught-by list and the 2018 comment say otherwise, and this guide follows them.

The mount's tooltip reads 'Requires 1 Outland Engineering skill to ride', and the item asks for Outland Engineering (1) and Apprentice Riding to learn, so the crafting character is also the one that learns it. The item carries no binding line in Wowhead's tooltip.

The wiki lists an anvil among the tools; Wowhead does not. The wiki's Outland Engineering page still shows the recipe at 300, from before the skill bars were split. Whoever cannot mine has to find the bars another way, which is not counted here.

Not established: whether Outland Engineering can be taken up without any Classic Engineering skill, and what skill the Arclight Spanner asks for today (the wiki says 50, on a page that may describe the old single skill bar).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
