Drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider, the last boss of the old Magisters' Terrace of The Burning Crusade, on Heroic difficulty only. The dungeon stands on the old Isle of Quel'Danas, reached by the portal to the Isle of Quel'Danas in Shattrath City; the Midnight dungeon of the same name is a different place with other bosses.
Chance 5.27% once a day, so about 19 tries on average — Wowhead's page for the mount (read 2026-10-10): 8,835 mounts in 167,661 recorded Heroic loots of Kael'thas Sunstrider (5.27%). The tooltip's 3.76% is every loot pooled, 10,609 in 282,491: that takes in 57,360 loots without a single mount, the Normal kills, and the Timewalking ones (1,774 in 57,470, 3.09%). wow.gg says 'approximately 4%'

Notes and sources
Set the difficulty to Heroic before going in: Wowhead has no mount in any Normal loot. About 19 Heroic kills are expected at 5.27%, one a day for each character, since a Heroic dungeon is saved until the daily reset. Time on site is wow.gg's 5-7 minutes a run.
Getting there after Midnight rests on one 2026 Wowhead comment: go straight to Shattrath, with no need for Zidormi, and take the portal at 48.6, 42.0, which leads to the old Isle of Quel'Danas. The wiki agrees as far as it goes: it keeps the Burning Crusade island and dungeon as pages of their own, says of old Eversong Woods that it stays separate from the Midnight zone, and has the Shattrath portal dropping the player in the Sun's Reach Sanctum.
The game's own entrance table still lists this entrance, which is where the coordinates come from (wow.gg: 61.3, 30.9). That flying is not allowed there comes from the wiki, which files the old island under its no-fly zones; it was not checked in the game.
The new Magisters' Terrace of Midnight does not drop this mount; its own is the Lucent Hawkstrider. Its bosses are Arcanotron Custos, Seranel Sunlash, Gemellus and Degentrius.
It also drops in the Timewalking version during Burning Crusade Timewalking weeks (Wowhead's count above; comments of 2023 to 2025). Wowhead also lists it in the Misty Satchel of Exotic Mysteries (99 in 61,526) and marks it as sold on the Black Market at times; neither is the route here.
Commenters' tips: leave one creature of the last pack before Kael'thas alive and his long speech is skipped (2011-2012), and keep a hearthstone ready, because the portal back to Shattrath did not work for one player (2022). Wowhead says 45% of profiles have it.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
