How to get it

Reward of the achievement You Xal Not Pass, which asks for five zone meta-achievements of The War Within: Slate of the Union (Isle of Dorn), Rage Aside the Machine (The Ringing Deeps), Crystal Chronicled (Hallowfall), Azj the World Turns (Azj-Kahet) and Isle Remember You (Siren Isle), 37 achievements between them. Progress counts for the whole account, and the mount is learned straight from the achievement.

Before you go

  • Renown 21 with the Council of Dornogal, for A Star of Dorn (part of Slate of the Union): the Theater Troupe's four actor perks are quests that open with the Council's renown, the last of them, Resonant Performance, at 21 · about 16 h over 5 weeks
  • Slate of the Union, the rest: 10 of the Isle of Dorn's rares, all its treasures, the plaques of the inert earthen (Rocked to Sleep), the hydraulic press in Dornogal's Forgegrounds (Flat Earthen), and every play of the Theater Troupe, which performs one play an hour (We're Here All Night) · about 3 h over 3 days
  • Rage Aside the Machine: 10 rares and all the treasures of The Ringing Deeps, six Machine Speaker notes, six consoles to repair, 18 critters to /love, 100 Odd Globs of Wax, and the Awakening the Machine event (started with Speaker Kuldas in Gundargaz) played to wave 20 and the Awakened Phalanx · about 3 h
  • Crystal Chronicled: 10 rares and all the treasures of Hallowfall, the missing lynxes, 11 books, Mereldar Menace, the Keyflame events (Sharing the Light; Igniting the Keyflames, 100 Radiant Remnants given), and three parts spread over weeks: Beacon of Hope (every quest of the Lesser Keyflames, one from each keeper a week), Lost and Found (nine mementoes returned to Maera Ashyld in a time-gated story) and Children's Entertainer (the orphanage's games, each a world quest that has to come up) · about 6 h over 4 weeks
  • Azj the World Turns: 10 rares and all the treasures of Azj-Kahet, six spiders to /wave at, the nerubian books read under a Potion of Polymorphic Translation (Smelling History, Bookworm), You Can't Hang With Us, The Unseeming (100 stacks of Unseeming Shift), and Worm Theory, three world quests (Grub Run, Wormcraft Rumble, and Worm Sign, Sealed, Delivered) that have to come up · about 3 h over 2 weeks
  • Isle Remember You on the Siren Isle: the island's story (A Song of Secrets, 12 quests), every rare, 10 Runed Storm Caches, 5 Flame-Blessed Iron given to each of three excavations, every weekly quest (Siren-ity Now!) and every Singing Citrine (A Choir of Citrines). The weekly quests, some of the rares and the citrines depend on the island's invasions, which change weekly in the order vrykul, naga, pirates · about 5 h over 3 weeks

In all: about 36 h of play, spread over 5 weeks, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Dornogal (the hub; the work is spread over the Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, Azj-Kahet and the Siren Isle)
Dornogal · 47.6, 45
/way Dornogal 47.6 45
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Stormwind to Dornogal*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Orgrimmar to Dornogal
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

A project of weeks, not a trip. There is no single place to go: the place given is only a point in Dornogal, the same as for the Geargrinder Mk. 11.

The journal files the mount under Vendor, which is wrong: there is no seller and no item to pick up. A 2025 Wowhead comment supposes the item was removed before patch 11.0.7 because the mount is learned directly, and Wowhead's page for item 223313 still carries the placeholder name '[PH] Shadow Elemental (Black)'.

The five parts and their 37 achievements are listed the same way by Wowhead's guide (2025), Method (2025) and Blizzard Watch (2025):

  • Isle of Dorn: 6
  • The Ringing Deeps: 7
  • Hallowfall: 10
  • Azj-Kahet: 8
  • the Siren Isle: 6

An account that played The War Within through holds much of it already, and Wowhead says 19% of profiles have the achievement. Blizzard Watch describes the whole as exploration that asks for no dungeon, raid or delve.

The hours given are a split by estimate, not measured figures: the Geargrinder Mk. 11's notes take all of You Xal Not Pass at 20 hours over 35 days, which is what the five zone parts here add up to in hours, with the Council's renown counted on top as its own requirement. The weekly parts run side by side, so the days do not add up.

Where the sources differ:

  • the renown ranks for the four actor perks are 3, 8, 14 and 21 in Method and 8, 10, 14 and 21 in Blizzard Watch; the wiki confirms the last
  • We're Here All Night is six plays in Blizzard Watch and five in Method
  • Siren-ity Now! is 18 weekly quests on the wiki and 17 in Blizzard Watch

One rare of The Ringing Deeps, Lurker of the Deeps, takes five players pulling five levers within 10 seconds (Method), but the achievement asks for any 10 of the zone's rares, so no player count is set.

Isle Remember You gives a mount of its own, The Breaker's Song, and You Xal Not Pass is in turn one part of Worldsoul-Searching (see the Geargrinder Mk. 11). All three guides were written before Midnight, and nothing from after its launch was read on whether the world events (Theater Troupe, Awakening the Machine, Spreading the Light) and the Siren Isle's invasions still run to the same timetable.

Added in patch 11.0.7 (17 December 2024).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
