How to get it

Rare find in Hyldnir Spoils, the bag that each of Gretta the Arbiter's daily quests in Brunnhildar Village pays. She offers one daily a day out of four, and only one whose first, non-daily version the character has done, so the Hyldnir quest chain that starts at K3 has to be played first.

Chance 3.48% once a day, so about 29 tries on average — Wowhead: 1,852 reins in 53,222 recorded openings of Hyldnir Spoils (3.48%), read 2026-10-10; the count is pooled over all years. The wiki and older guides say about 1%; a much-read Wowhead comment of 2022 says 3%

Guides Warcraft Wiki: The Sons of Hodir quest chain (the quests that open the dailies) · Warcraft Tavern: The Storm Peaks Daily Quests (written for Wrath Classic)

Before you go

  • The Hyldnir chain, about 25 quests: They Took Our Men! from Gretchen Fizzlespark at K3 (41.0, 86.0), the Forlorn Mine quests from The Crone's Bargain (which gives the Hyldnir disguise) to Is That Your Goblin?, The Hyldsmeet and Taking on All Challengers, the warbear quests from You'll Need a Bear to Into the Pit, then The Drakkensryd and the two quests with Thorim at the Temple of Storms, and the side quest Aberrations from Thyra Kvinnshal in the village (48.5, 72.1). Each of Gretta's dailies repeats one of them: Maintaining Discipline (The Drakkensryd), Defending Your Title (Taking on All Challengers), Back to the Pit (Into the Pit), The Aberrations Must Die (Aberrations) · about 2.5 h

In all: about 2.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Gretta the Arbiter, Brunnhildar Village
The Storm Peaks · 50.8, 65.6
/way The Storm Peaks 50.8 65.6
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.7 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Crystalsong Forest*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.7 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Crystalsong Forest*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

One bag a day for each character that has opened the dailies; about 29 bags are expected at Wowhead's 3.48%. Comments from 2025 and 2026 show it still dropping: one player's first bag, another's sixth, another's 75th.

The four dailies:

  • Maintaining Discipline (6 Exhausted Vrykul in the Forlorn Mine)
  • Defending Your Title (6 Victorious Challengers)
  • Back to the Pit (6 Hyldsmeet Warbears, ridden on the warbear in the Pit of the Fang)
  • The Aberrations Must Die (30 Plagued Proto-Drake Eggs at Valkyrion)

The time on site is for one of them and is an estimate. On a day when the daily that comes up has not been opened, Gretta offers nothing (Warcraft Tavern; a 2022 comment says the same), which is why Aberrations is counted in. A 2026 commenter with two characters was only ever offered Defending Your Title.

The sources differ on when she starts:

  • the wiki ties Defending Your Title to Taking on All Challengers and Back to the Pit to Into the Pit
  • Warcraft Tavern ties Maintaining Discipline to The Drakkensryd
  • the 2022 comment only met her daily after Mending Fences, the second quest with Thorim

That comment also does two more side quests in the village, from the quest giver beside Thyra, though no daily repeats them. It says the chain's markers only show with low-level (trivial) quest tracking switched on.

The Crone's Bargain makes the Hyldnir of Sifreldar, the mine and Brunnhildar friendly from then on, disguise or not (wiki). The wiki says the chain cannot be begun without flying in Northrend. Until patch 3.0.8 she offered more than one daily a day (wiki), which is what the oldest comments describe.

Coordinates are Wowhead's tooltips for Gretta (50.8, 65.4 to 65.6; the wiki has 51, 66) and for Gretchen Fizzlespark. Wowhead lists the bag with a level requirement of 25. The wiki also lists the reins as a Black Market item, and Wowhead shows them in the old Call to Arms satchels.

No guide of Wowhead's own covers the chain for the retail game: its Northrend collecting guide (updated 2020) only mentions the bear in passing. Both linked guides are for the chain; Warcraft Tavern's was written for Wrath Classic, where the quests are the same.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
