Rare find in the Heart-Shaped Box, the once-a-day reward for killing Apothecary Hummel and his two fellow apothecaries of the Crown Chemical Co. in Shadowfang Keep while Love is in the Air is on. The fight is entered through the Group Finder's holiday queue, which forms the party and sets it down in the keep's courtyard. Only the account's first kill of the day can give the mount, and the chance grows with each day it does not.
Chance No chance was ever published. Wowhead has 38 Spring Butterflies in 1,195,371 opened Heart-Shaped Boxes (item 54537, read 2026-10-10), which measures nothing: the count pools every box since 2009, and the mount has only been in them since 9 February 2026. Blizzard's rule (wiki, Wowhead's guide): it can only drop from the account's first attempt of the day, and the chance rises each new day the boss is beaten without it; no starting figure or step is given. Notes and sources
No place is given above: the queue is joined from anywhere and carries the party into the keep (the wiki notes a 2014 hotfix that sets players down in the main courtyard). For reference, the game's table has Shadowfang Keep's entrance at Silverpine Forest 44.6, 67.7.
When: the mount was added to the game files in patch 11.1.0 and first dropped in the 2026 holiday, 9 to 23 February (wiki). Wowhead's guide (updated 2026) gives 8 to 22 February for 2027, so at the last check the next chance was four months away, and the wiki adds that a holiday reward's return next year is never promised. Fourteen or fifteen daily attempts fit in one holiday.
Who gets a chance: the wiki and Wowhead's guide both say the first attempt of the day account-wide, with nothing for later characters. One 2026 Wowhead comment reports it from a third run of the day, and several describe taking four more accounts of their own into the same run so that five 'first' boxes are opened at once. It can come in the same box as the Love Witch's Sweeper or the X-45 Heartbreaker (comments). The item binds to the Warband and the mount is account-wide.
Level: the wiki says level 10 and up can queue and the fight scales, and comments report the mount from boxes opened by level 10 characters; Wowhead's guide says level 10 in one place and level 20 in another. The box has gone to characters of every level since patch 11.0.7 (wiki).
The fight: each of the three apothecaries deals perfume or cologne damage, and the matching neutralizer from the table beside them cancels most of it (wiki, Wowhead's guide); commenters in 2026 found the three hit harder than in earlier years. The party is made up by the queue; whether it can be entered with fewer than five was not established. The time on the spot is an estimate for the queue and the fight (one commenter alone took about 8 minutes over the fight).
