How to get it

In the Vision of Stormwind (Horrific Visions Revisited, entered from Soridormi's camp south of the Coreway in Dornogal) with at least two Faceless Masks active, go to the Trade District and read the two Ripped Notes near the gryphon master's ramp: the one by the small well on the way to the Inquisitor (65.6, 71.6 on the vision's map) says raw or cooked, the one at the top of the stairs (68.7, 73.4) names the kind of food (fish, fungus, spiced meat or steak). Put the matching one of eight Khaz Algar Cooking ingredients into the Claw Marked Bowl beside the stairs (68.1, 73.4) and click the bowl again to rattle it. That calls the Void-Scarred Gryphon, which takes some twenty seconds to land and drops the reins. The wrong food calls a swarm of Frenzied Rats instead and the bowl is gone for that run.

Time there about 15 min a visit

Guides Wowhead: Revisited Horrific Visions Rewards - Patch 11.1.5: Nightfall · Warcraft Secrets: Void-Scarred Gryphon Secret Mount Guide · Method: Void-Scarred Gryphon Mount

Before you go

  • A level 80 character and Soridormi's short introduction at the camp (the wiki says the Dornogal entrance has no other unlock: no key, cloak or Heart of Azeroth) · about 0.4 h
  • Two Faceless Masks: the Mask of the Long Night for clearing every objective of a vision in one visit, then a second from a run with that mask on (in Stormwind: the Pained for Old Town, Dark Imagination for the Mage Quarter; in Orgrimmar: the Burned Bridge for the Valley of Wisdom, the Daredevil for the Valley of Honor) · about 2.5 h
  • A week when the vision is Stormwind: everyone gets the same vision each week and the two cities take turns · 7 days
  • One each of the eight foods in the bags before going in, since the notes change from run to run. Raw, made in the Khaz Algar Cooking window five at a time: Fresh Fillet (from five Khaz Algar fish), Chopped Mycobloom (five Mycobloom), Spiced Meat Stock and Portioned Steak (five Khaz Algar meats each). Cooked, from the Khaz Algar cooking trainers' recipes: Skewered Fillet (five Fresh Fillet), Roasted Mycobloom (five Chopped Mycobloom), Simple Stew (two Spiced Meat Stock), Unseasoned Field Steak (two Portioned Steak) · about 0.5 h

In all: about 3.4 h of play, spread over 7 days, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Soridormi, Horrific Visions camp south of the Coreway
Dornogal · 34.7, 68.8
/way Dornogal 34.7 68.8
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Stormwind to Dornogal*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.1 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Orgrimmar to Dornogal
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Added with Horrific Visions Revisited in patch 11.1.5 (22 April 2025; the visions opened on 20 May). The wiki calls the reins a guaranteed drop from the Void-Scarred Gryphon, and Wowhead has 714 reins in 715 recorded loots of it (npc 237991), the 99.86% its tooltip shows (2026), so it is counted as certain.

Still there in Midnight: a 2026 Wowhead comment got it 'as of Midnight Patch 12.0.7', and the wiki calls the Revisited visions 'permanently available' and lists a Midnight hotfix of 26 January 2026 to their reward display. A 2025 comment that calls the event limited-time is contradicted in a reply.

Masks: a hotfix of 21 May 2025 lowered the requirement from three active masks to two (wiki). The wiki, Warcraft Secrets, Method (2025) and the top Wowhead comments (2025, confirmed by three replies) all say two, while one 2025 reply says three.

The Trade District does not have to be completed (top Wowhead comment, 2025; another: 'You don't have to finish, mount drops from the rare'). The enemies around the gryphon master, an elite among them, are in the way (2025 comment, Method).

Places on the vision's map (map 2404), where three Wowhead comments and Warcraft Secrets agree to within a few tenths:

  • note by the well: 65.6, 71.6
  • note at the top of the stairs: 68.7, 73.4
  • bowl: 68.1, 73.4 (one comment has 67.8, 73.3; the wiki's Horrific Visions page 66.0, 70.8)

Which note says what: the wiki and four Wowhead comments have the note by the well saying raw or cooked and the one on the stairs the kind; Warcraft Secrets and Method number them the other way round, which changes nothing.

Food can be put in the bowl only once a run and the right food is drawn afresh each run (wiki); after a wrong one the vision has to be started again (Method, comments). If no gryphon comes at once after the rattle, wait: it flies in and can take about 20 seconds (2025 comments). In a group only one character gets the reins from a kill (Warcraft Secrets), so each player needs a run of their own.

The foods are intermediate ingredients of Khaz Algar Cooking and are not bound. The wiki's page for Fresh Fillet says it can be bought and sold on the auction house, the guides and most comments simply buy the eight, and several comments note that a character with an auction or mailbox mount can read the notes first and fetch only the one food from inside the vision. The hours given are for making them.

Runs are not limited (wiki: no keys, 'can be attempted as often as desired'), so a failed run can be repeated at once in the same week. Not established: how the visions scale for a level 90 character, and whether the two cities still take turns week by week in 2026.

The reins bind to the Warband and ask for level 30; a flying mount (wiki). The place given above, its coordinates and the first two requirements are the Void-Scarred Windrider's: the same camp and the same two masks. The time on the spot is an estimate for one run; no source gives one.

Wowhead's guide is listed on the item's own page; it is the one used for this guide's other Horrific Visions Revisited mounts (updated 2025) and was not opened again. The top Wowhead comment also points to a Wowhead news post on the mount's requirements (news 376964), which was not read.

Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
