How to get it

Reward of the Horde achievement For the Horde!: slay the leaders of the Alliance in their cities. Two are left on the list: the Council of Three Hammers (Moira Thaurissan, Muradin Bronzebeard and Falstad Wildhammer) at the High Seat in Ironforge (Overthrow the Council) and Prophet Velen in the Exodar (Putting Out the Light). Progress is shared across the account, and the Reins of the Black War Bear come with the second.

Time there about 15 min a visit

Before you go

  • Putting Out the Light: Prophet Velen killed in the Exodar, on Azuremyst Isle off the north-west of Kalimdor (he stands at 32.4, 54.4 on the Exodar's own map) · about 0.75 h

In all: about 0.8 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Council of Three Hammers, the High Seat, Ironforge (one of two; Prophet Velen is in the Exodar)
Ironforge · 39.4, 55.6
/way Ironforge 39.4 55.6
From Orgrimmar about 2.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Western Earthshrine to Vashj'ir*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Horde characters only; the Alliance's Black War Bear is a separate mount, from For the Alliance!.

Sources disagree on which leaders must die. Wowhead's tooltip and page for the achievement (as read in 2026) show two criteria, Overthrow the Council and Putting Out the Light, with 'Account-wide progress', and this guide follows those two. The wiki's page shows three, adding Executing the Exarch (kill High Exarch Turalyon in Stormwind Keep), which its patch history says replaced Storming Stormwind in 9.0.1; that page carries an 'outdated' banner and was last edited in 2025. Wowhead comments on Turalyon:

  • 2021: the game's own achievement pane listed Turalyon as well, but the achievement was granted after the Council and Velen alone, without the Stormwind kill
  • 2022: called it unobtainable because Turalyon could not be attacked just then
  • 2023: a group killed 'the Stormwind king' too

If the game does ask for Turalyon, that is a third trip, to Stormwind Keep.

Coordinates are Wowhead's tooltips: Muradin Bronzebeard (npc 42928) at 39.4, 55.4 to 40, 55 in Ironforge, and Prophet Velen at 32.4, 54.4 in the Exodar. The other two council members stand in the same room as Muradin (the wiki's High Seat page); their own spots were not looked up. By the wiki each of the three council members can be killed on a different visit. Both cities belong to the other faction, so their guards and any Alliance players there fight back.

Getting to the Exodar, as the group of 2023 did it:

  • flew from Orgrimmar to Darkshore and had Zidormi there show the past
  • flew on to Darnassus and Rut'theran Village
  • took the teleport on its pier to Azuremyst Isle

Whether Azuremyst can simply be flown to was not established. The same group suggests a summoning stone (Gnomeregan's, by Ironforge) or a warlock for latecomers, and listed their raid in the Group Finder under rated battlegrounds.

What Midnight changed, if anything, was not found written down. The newest comment on the achievement's page is from 2025: a party of six did it that day in about an hour, with the advice to turn War Mode on. None of the wiki's pages for these achievements has been edited since. Whether War Mode has to be on was not established.

The wiki has Immortal No More (Tyrande) removed in 8.0.1, and Death to the King! turned into Overthrow the Council in 4.0.3a.

How the reins arrive: the wiki says the mount is 'automatically added to the player's mount collection', and a 2017 comment says the same. The 15 minutes on the spot are an estimate for getting into the High Seat and the three fights.

No guide is linked. Wowhead's page links only its general player-versus-player achievements guide (a player's list, last edited 2025), which was not read. wow.gg's page for the bear is the Alliance's and, by the notes for the Alliance's Black War Bear, still lists the leaders of 2008. The wiki's tactics are of the Wrath and Cataclysm years.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
