Reward of the achievement Prey: Nightmare Mode III: defeat all 30 of the original Prey targets on Nightmare difficulty. Progress counts for the whole account. In Midnight Season 2 the way to those targets is the custom hunt: at rank 10 of the Preyhunter's Journey, Astalor Bloodsworn in his sanctum in Silvermoon City offers the repeatable quest Prey: Preferential Killing, which lets the target, the zone and the difficulty be chosen, so each missing target is picked on Nightmare in turn. The mount comes with the achievement.

Before you go
- Prey opened, once for the account: Astalor Bloodsworn's four quests starting in Silvermoon City with Prey: Astalor's Initiative, then The Power of Anguish, When Predator Becomes Prey and To the Sanctum! · about 0.5 h
- Nightmare difficulty unlocked: One Hero's Prey (one Normal hunt, which opens Hard), then Astalor's chain Practical Magic, Dark Mending, Precious Jewels, Garden Variety Sacrifices and The Sheep or the Wolf, whose reward is 'Prey: Nightmare Difficulty' · about 1 h
- Rank 10 of the Preyhunter's Journey, the Season 2 Prey track on the Journeys tab, which opens Prey: Preferential Killing: 4,000 progress a rank, 40,000 in all, from finishing Prey hunts on any difficulty. From patch 12.1.5 (13 October 2026) a hunt below rank 4 gives a whole rank and from rank 4 to 9 each of a week's first four hunts gives 2,000: four hunts, then twelve more over three weeks · about 5.5 h over 2 weeks
- 30 custom hunts on Nightmare, one for each target, each taken from Astalor with Prey: Preferential Killing and fought in Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar or the Voidstorm; fewer for an account that already has some of the 30 on Nightmare · about 10 h
In all: about 17 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Silvermoon City 56.6 65.6 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Silvermoon*

- Take the portal from Orgrimmar to Silvermoon*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Why the custom hunt: in Season 1 the Hunt Table offered four targets a week on each difficulty and Astalor's random hunts (50 Remnants of Anguish a draw, by a 2026 Wowhead comment) drew from all 30, and players report 5,000 to 70,000 Remnants and 11-12 hours spent chasing the last few.
In Season 2, by comments on Wowhead's achievement page (2026):
- only the new serpent targets show up on Nightmare
- the achievement can be finished once the custom hunt perk is unlocked
- the custom hunt is repeatable and offers Normal, Hard and Nightmare in the four levelling zones (on the Coiled Isle it offers only Hard)
These are players' reports, not a guide: no guide found describes Season 2, and whether Season 2's random hunts (rank 2 of the journey) still draw the old targets is not established.
Custom hunts were once a week per character until the hotfix of 12 May 2026; since then they are unlimited, with reduced rewards after the account's first of the week (150 Remnants for the first Nightmare one by a 2026 comment) and no gear chest (2026 comment).
The wiki's quest page ties Preferential Killing to rank 10 of the 'Preyseeker's Journey', the Season 1 track, and its Preyhunter's Journey page lists it as the rank 10 reward of Season 2; this guide follows the second, so an account that reached rank 10 in Season 1 may or may not have to earn it again. The journey is a hidden faction on the Journeys tab, not in the reputation pane, so no reputation is listed for it (as for the Preyhunter's Fury).
Nightmare unlock, by source:
- the wiki: Dark Mending at renown 3 of the Season 1 track
- Method (2026): rank 4
- wow.gg (updated 2026 but still describing Season 1): a chain 'Sacrifices for the Greater Good', and 8-10 weeks at three or four Nightmare hunts a week, with no word of custom hunts
On Hard and Nightmare the last fight is fought by one player alone (wiki), which is the game's rule and not a judgement. Since patch 12.1.0 the achievement's text says it also grants the Hard and Normal achievements of the same rank; kills on Nightmare do not add progress to those (2026 comments). The addon Prey Achievement Marker marks the targets still missing in Astalor's dialog (2026 comment).
The place given is Astalor's spot by Wowhead's tooltip (56.4-56.6, 65.4-65.6); the time on the spot stands for one hunt, which is fought out in the chosen zone. The wiki has no page for Astalor's Sanctum.
The guide linked is Wowhead's Prey guide, the one Wowhead links from the Preferential Killing quest page; it was not read, so its title is Wowhead's link text and how current it is was not checked.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
