How to get it

Reward of the achievement Staring Into The Void: fully unlock the Research Console at the Howling Ridge in Voidstorm. Each of its seven upgrades costs one Uncontaminated Void Sample, and the last one, Wings of the Void, gives the achievement. The samples come from Void Researcher Anomander's weekly quest and the Stormarion Assault, so it takes three weeks on one character. The mount arrives by mail.

Time there about 2 min a visit

Guide Method: Lab-Grown Stormray Mount Guide

Before you go

  • Renown 2 with The Singularity: 5,000 reputation from Voidstorm's campaign chapters and side quests, world quests and rares (each rare once a day). The rank gives Unavoidable Discoveries, which opens the quest Researching the Storm · about 1.5 h
  • The quest Researching the Storm from Void Researcher Anomander at the Howling Ridge, which opens the Research Console and pays the first sample · about 0.3 h
  • 7 Uncontaminated Void Samples on the same character, one for each upgrade: one from opening the console, then each week one from the weekly quest Research Console: Exploring the Void (three world quests in Voidstorm for Anomander) and one from finishing the Stormarion Assault. Three in the first week, two in each of the next two · about 2 h over 2 weeks

In all: about 3.8 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Research Console and Void Researcher Anomander, the Howling Ridge
Voidstorm · 52.6, 72.8
/way Voidstorm 52.6 72.8
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Silvermoon*
  2. Take the portal from Silvermoon to Voidstorm*
  3. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Orgrimmar to Silvermoon*
  2. Take the portal from Silvermoon to Voidstorm*
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The journal names only the achievement. Wowhead's tooltip for it (62385, 10 points) reads 'Fully unlock the Research Console in Voidstorm' with one criterion, Wings of the Void, and the Lab-Grown Stormray as reward.

The wiki lists the console's upgrades, one sample each: That is seven, Method's figure. The wiki adds that unlocking Wings of the Void gives the achievement 'even if the second row is skipped', so fewer than seven samples may do; how many the tree lets a player skip was not established, and all seven are counted here.

  • Amassing Voidlust
  • the three protocols of Predation, Violence and Sustenance
  • Defense Network and Forward Positions
  • Wings of the Void

The console is each character's own while the renown is the Warband's (Method), so the samples have to be gathered on one character. Method's guide does not say how many samples a week come after the first; three, two and two is what its total of seven in three weeks implies.

The Stormarion Assault is the event at Stormarion Citadel (about 26.8, 67.8 by the Contained Stormarion Defender's notes), which starts every 30 minutes by the sources given there.

Wings of the Void is itself a stormray to ride in Voidstorm; the Lab-Grown Stormray is the achievement's separate reward (wiki). A hotfix of 8 May 2026 removed Wings of the Void from the spellbook, where using it had granted the mount without the mailbox (wiki).

The coordinates are Method's single waypoint for the console and Anomander (/way #2405 52.60 72.81); neither the wiki nor a Wowhead tooltip was found to check them against. No Wowhead guide for this mount was found. The item binds when picked up (Wowhead tooltip). The wiki spells the mount 'Lab-grown Stormray'. Added in patch 12.0.1.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
